DescriptionThe whole story▼

A Panigale 1299 spends its life between two extremes, and the paddock is where it falls over. LighTech's WAPDU409 pairs a screen-printed nylon shell with a coloured Ergal core and weighs 200 g. It is offered in 2 colours: Black, Red. Fitted to the Panigale 1299 it uses the mounting points the bike already has, so nothing is drilled.

Key Features

  • Covers the Panigale 1299 across 4 model years (2015 to 2018)
  • 2 colours on the WAPDU409, all at the same price
  • Protects the fork bottoms and swingarm ends of the Panigale 1299 in a low-speed fall
  • The WAPDU409 costs less than the smallest part it defends on a Panigale 1299
  • Colour choice does not affect the fit of the WAPDU409 on the Panigale 1299
  • At 200 g the WAPDU409 is the cheapest thing on the Panigale 1299 to sacrifice
  • The LighTech logo is screen-printed into the WAPDU409 nylon, not stuck on afterwards

How Axle Protection Works

Protection here is a matter of millimetres — the slider has to reach past the axle nut. Nylon on the outside of the WAPDU409 deforms under impact and springs back afterwards. The coloured insert is sold in pairs, so a damaged Panigale 1299 is back to standard for small money.

Materials and Construction

What touches the ground on the Panigale 1299 is nylon, and that is deliberate. The insert is Ergal: known for strength, chosen here for its weight. Because the insert is a separate item, a scuffed WAPDU409 is rebuilt rather than replaced.

Fitment

This listing covers the Ducati Panigale 1299 only; sister models carry their own part numbers. It uses the mounting points the Panigale 1299 already carries, so nothing is drilled or fabricated.

Supplied As

The WAPDU409 kit is sold complete; the coloured inserts are the only item also listed separately. A worn WAPDU409 is renewed at the element, not at the kit.

In the Workshop

Nothing beyond basic workshop tools is needed to fit the WAPDU409 to a Panigale 1299. Thread-locking compound is sensible on a Panigale 1299 that sees track use. The Panigale 1299 takes any of the 2 WAPDU409 finishes — Black, Red — without a change to the hardware.

Road Approval

The WAPDU409 is delivered without any type-approval document. A protector fitted outside the outline of the Panigale 1299 is something a German inspector may question. We would rather you asked first than discovered it at the inspection.
