DescriptionThe whole story▼
The front and rear axles of a MULTISTRADA 1200 do the same job in a fall: they lead. Enter the WAPDU403: nylon outside for elasticity, Ergal inside for strength, 200 g on the scales. It is offered in 2 colours: Black, Red. LighTech supplies it for the MULTISTRADA 1200 complete, so no separate hardware order is needed.
Key Features
- Black, Red — one WAPDU403 kit, 2 ways to match the MULTISTRADA 1200
- The coloured inner part of the WAPDU403 is sold separately in pairs for custom combinations
- The insert changes without pulling the axle out of the MULTISTRADA 1200
- Supplied complete with the hardware the MULTISTRADA 1200 installation needs
- LighTech part number WAPDU403, catalogued for the Ducati MULTISTRADA 1200
- Nylon was chosen over aluminium so the WAPDU403 deforms instead of loading the MULTISTRADA 1200 axle
- Fitting the WAPDU403 to a MULTISTRADA 1200 is measured in minutes, not hours
How Axle Protection Works
The geometry is the whole argument: the WAPDU403 ends further outboard than the fork bottom. The WAPDU403 puts the elastic material outside and the structural material inside. At 200 g the WAPDU403 is lighter than the fasteners it replaces on some machines.
Construction and Material Quality
Nylon forms the outside of the WAPDU403; the material is elastic enough to take repeated knocks. The coloured core is Ergal, light enough not to matter on the MULTISTRADA 1200 and strong enough to hold. LighTech sells the coloured inner part in pairs, so the WAPDU403 is a serviceable assembly.
Fitment and Compatibility
Fitment is the Ducati MULTISTRADA 1200, 2016 to 2020. No modification to the MULTISTRADA 1200 is involved — the standard points take the kit.
Fitting
The WAPDU403 goes onto the MULTISTRADA 1200 with the bike on a stand and nothing dismantled. Leave the final torque until the position is confirmed on the MULTISTRADA 1200. The WAPDU403 comes in 2 finishes — Black, Red — and the colour makes no difference to the fit on the MULTISTRADA 1200.
What Is in the Box
What arrives is a full WAPDU403 set at 200 g, ready to go onto the MULTISTRADA 1200. LighTech keeps the WAPDU403 in its spare parts programme rather than treating it as disposable.
Road Approval
The WAPDU403 arrives without approval paperwork, and we do not present it as approved. Rules differ by country; in Germany the MULTISTRADA 1200 inspection is where this comes up. If the MULTISTRADA 1200 is used on track only, none of this applies.
