The One Riders Kept Buying Used
KTM dropped the 1090 Adventure R in 2019 without naming a direct successor, leaving a 21-inch front wheel, WP suspension and a package lighter than the 1290 unavailable new. Owners fitting a quick throttle to a used example are modifying a bike the factory already discontinued.
Standing, Not Sitting
The R's long-travel suspension and spoked front wheel point it at terrain the standard 1090 is not set up for, which is also where a rider standing on the pegs benefits most from a shorter throttle action and, by extension, from a switch that keeps working once the stock block is gone.
A Housing Sealed After Machining
Milling from solid Ergal rather than moulding leaves a denser, more consistent wall around the switch contacts, and the bronze anodising applied afterwards is a surface treatment the metal itself carries rather than a paint layer that can flake off in mud.
No Splicing Required
The unit plugs into KTM's original connector exactly as the factory switchblock did, so nothing about the bike's wiring loom is cut, re-pinned or taped over to accommodate it, an important detail on an R model whose factory wiring parts are not as easy to source as they once were.
Dirt-Resistant by Design
Military-specification switch elements inside a sealed, machined block matter more on an R model ridden off-road than on one that stays on tarmac, since water and grit rather than button wear are what usually end switchgear in that environment.
