DescriptionThe whole story▼

BMW's M division took the S1000R, added winglets and a great deal more power, and left the brake lever exactly as it was. On the M1000R that stands out: every other control has been thought about, and the one your fingers touch hardest still sits where it always did.

Key Features

  • Central adjuster wheel, reachable from the riding position
  • Folding blade that swings clear instead of snapping off
  • Engineered break point inside the two-finger zone
  • Phosphated pivot seat, free of play from new
  • CNC-machined from solid aluminium, black anodised
  • Road legal in Germany under ABE No. KBA 91203

Machining and Finish

The lever is cut from solid aluminium, bored, and only then anodised black, so the pivot keeps the tolerance it was machined to. Gilles phosphates that bore in a separate step. On a naked bike like the M1000R, where nothing shields the cockpit from spray, that treated surface is what stops the blade working loose into a rattle over a winter.

Reach on a Naked M Bike

With a wide bar and an upright torso, the M1000R rider meets the lever at a different angle than a rider tucked behind a screen. Thirty-five positions let you close that gap in single steps rather than choosing between two compromises. Most riders find their setting in the first handful of clicks, then leave the wheel alone for good.

Why the Blade Folds

A hinged blade is not a styling decision. On a bike that spends time on the road rather than behind a garage door, the day it goes over in a car park costs an inspection instead of a master cylinder assembly. The break point sits inside the two-finger area, where a controlled failure does the least harm.

Road Approval

Road legal in Germany under ABE No. KBA 91203, so no entry in the vehicle documents and no inspection are required. Carry the printed certificate — the download sits on this page. The designed break point is part of the approval and must be left as supplied.

Scope of Delivery

Supplied as one black brake lever for the M1000R. The original pivot hardware is reused, nothing is cut or drilled, and the factory lever can go back on in minutes.
