DescriptionThe whole story▼
The facelift S1000R kept the engine and the frame and changed enough detail around them that a number of parts stopped interchanging. The side stand is one of those. This article covers 2017 through 2020; the earlier machine takes its own.
Key Features
- Replacement side stand for the 2017-2020 S1000R
- Aluminium and carbon hybrid, metal at the pivot and the foot
- 200 Plain or 245 Twill weave, clear coat or matt
- Original pivot bolt and return spring reused
- Not interchangeable with the 2013-2016 article
Where the Weight Actually Is
A steel side stand weighs a few hundred grams and hangs low on the left of the engine. Removing part of that is a genuine saving in the least useful place on the motorcycle, but it is a small number and anyone buying this part for lap times is buying it for the wrong reason. It is bought because it is the last agricultural-looking component on an otherwise finished left flank.
The pivot and the foot stay metal, which is where they need to be. The carbon is the arm between them.
Fitment and Compatibility
BMW S1000R, model years 2017 to 2020. Fullsix lists the same article for the S1000RR of 2015 to 2018. The 2013-2016 roadster uses MB-RR12-TC29 and the 2021 machine uses a different stand again.
Road Approval
Fullsix publishes neither an ABE nor an EC type-approval number for this part, and no load rating. A side stand carries the entire motorcycle; confirm the position for your own registration before road use rather than assuming it.
Fitting Notes
The job takes minutes with the bike on a rear stand and is unpleasant without one — the motorcycle has to be held upright while the old stand comes off. Check that the safety switch plunger seats correctly afterwards; on this generation the engine will not run in gear with the stand down, and a misaligned switch is the usual reason a freshly converted bike refuses to pull away.
