DescriptionThe whole story▼
Five newton metres at 5,900 rpm and three and a half horsepower at 7,400. On a ShiftCam boxer those are large numbers for a silencer swap, and they land in the band a loaded GS holds on a long day.
Key Features
- 5.0 Nm more at 5,900 rpm, with peak torque rising from 132.2 to 136.6 Nm
- 3.5 PS more at 7,400 rpm, peak output rising to 126.6 PS
- 4.8 kg against the standard 5.2 kg: 0.4 kg and 7.7 per cent less
- Titanium outer sleeve with carbon fibre parts, black finish
- Twenty minutes to fit
- EC and ECE type approved
- No removable noise insert is supplied
Black or Natural — the Same Silencer
Akrapovic offers this system in two finishes for the same motorcycle. S-B12SO23-HAAT is the natural titanium version; this one, with BL in the part number, is black-coated. Dimensions, weight and measured figures are identical.
The choice is what suits your GS. On a Triple Black or a Rallye in dark paint the coated version disappears into the machine; on a lighter colour scheme the natural titanium reads better. The coating also hides the heat tint that bare titanium develops within a season.
Where the Torque Actually Helps
An R 1250 GS is geared long and usually ridden loaded. 5,900 rpm in fifth or sixth is overtaking on a country road with panniers and a passenger, and 5 Nm there is felt without a downshift.
The 7.7 per cent weight saving is the smaller half of the story and this page does not pretend otherwise. BMW's standard silencer is already a reasonably light unit; the reason to fit this one is the torque, the sound and the finish.
One Thing to Know
No removable noise insert is supplied. The sound level is what the silencer produces as built — type approved at that level, but not adjustable for an early start.
Five Newton Metres Is a Lot for a Slip-On
Most silencers in this catalogue add between one and three newton metres. This one adds five, and 3.5 PS with it — figures that usually come from a full system rather than a silencer swap.
The reason is the part it replaces. BMW's standard R 1250 GS silencer is heavily baffled to meet noise limits on a 136 Nm boxer, and opening that path releases more than it would on a bike with a less restrictive original.
What Stays Standard
The header, the catalytic converter and the engine management are untouched, and no remapping is required. The original silencer refits in twenty minutes if the GS is sold in factory condition — worth knowing on a motorcycle with this strong a used market.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-B12SO23-HAATBL covers the BMW R 1250 GS from model year 2019 through 2023. For the R 1300 GS from 2024 the corresponding parts are S-B13SO4-HJGT and S-B13SO4-HJGTBL — different systems that do not carry over.
Road Approval
EC type approval and ECE type approval, with the certificates supplied and downloadable here. The silencer is a legal replacement part for road use in the European Union.
