DescriptionThe whole story▼

Right at the end of the AGPA92 list sits ZXC ceramic racing, the ceramic mixture Accossato describes as made for racing. It shares its outline with every other pad in the family, which is why it can be ordered for the rear caliper of a BMW K1600 GTL built between 2011 and 2026. This page deals with that one article number and with the work of fitting it, because a brake pad is only ever as good as the hour somebody spends putting it in properly.

Key Features

  • Rear pads for the BMW K1600 GTL, model years 2011 to 2026
  • AGPA92ZXC: the AGPA92 outline in Accossato's ceramic racing material
  • Described by the maker as a ceramic compound made for racing
  • Valid for the Exclusive version too
  • Two pads in a box, the set one rear caliper takes
  • Four more materials cover the same outline for road and track duty
  • For the front wheel the list points to the AGPA57
  • No German ABE documented; offered for track and competition

Construction and Material Quality

The ceramic entry is the specialist of this group. Accossato's own words about it are few, a ceramic compound meant for racing, and we would rather leave them as they are than dress them up with figures nobody has given us. What is certain is the physical part: the same steel plate, the same outline as the other AGPA92 numbers, so nothing about the fitting changes when you pick this one. The maker's wider promise for its pads is a high level of stopping power, and that applies to the ceramic version as to the rest. A box holds two pads, one caliper's worth and no more.

Changing the Rear Pads Yourself

The back of a K1600 GTL is a crowded place, so allow more time than the job appears to need. Work with the machine on its centre stand and the rear wheel free to turn. Before the new pads go anywhere near the caliper, clean the visible part of each piston and press it back slowly; dirt driven into a seal is a leak waiting to happen, and a piston forced back in a hurry sends fluid the wrong way up the line. Watch the reservoir while you do it. Once the pads are in, work the pedal repeatedly until it comes up hard, then turn the wheel by hand to confirm it still runs free. Finally give the new pair a bedding-in period: a series of moderate stops from moderate speed, each followed by a stretch of riding that lets the air do its work, before you treat them as fully useful.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists this pad for the rear wheel of the K 1600 GTL across 2011 to 2026, with the Exclusive named in the same line. One caliper at the back means one box for a complete change, and both pads are renewed at once. Look the disc over while the caliper is apart: a pronounced lip at its outer edge or deep grooves in the friction track mean the pads are not the only part asking for attention. Four other materials exist for this outline, and the front wheel of the tourer takes the AGPA57.

Road Approval

We have received no ABE and no approval documents for the AGPA92ZXC. Since nothing on paper covers it for German public roads, it leaves us for racing and for use on closed circuits.

Scope of Delivery

Two AGPA92 pads in the ZXC ceramic racing material, boxed together for one rear caliper.
