DescriptionThe whole story▼

When a Yamaha XJ6 Diversion is loaded for a tour, with a passenger on board and luggage on the rack, the rear brake takes on a larger share of the work. For the XJ6 Diversion from 2009 to 2015, Accossato lists its AGPP89 rear pad in the Sintered (ST) compound. It is intended for riders who travel two-up, ride through rain without changing plans and want a rear pedal that feels the same at the end of a wet mountain day as it did when they set off in the morning.

Key Features

  • AGPP89 rear pad, Sintered (ST) compound
  • For the XJ6 Diversion, 2009 to 2015
  • Steady grip whatever the temperature
  • Good wet grip, per Accossato
  • Suited to touring two-up
  • One box for the rear caliper
  • OR version also offered

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato describes ST in terms of stability: grip that is high and barely shifts between a cold brake and a hot one, plus a sure hold when the disc is wet. On the back of a loaded tourer, where the rear caliper sits in the spray from the tyre and the brake is leaned on for long periods, those are the right priorities.

Two-Up Over the Passes

With a pillion and luggage, weight moves rearwards and the rear brake becomes more effective, so experienced touring riders use it more, especially to steady the bike into hairpins on a long descent. That steady use heats the rear pad more than solo riding does. A sintered pad keeps its feel as the temperature climbs, and when a shower rolls over the pass it bites promptly on the wet disc. Smooth, predictable deceleration is also what keeps a passenger comfortable, since every abrupt change is felt at the back.

Care on Tour

Road dirt and water collect around the rear caliper on wet days. Rinse it during stops at the hotel, check that the pads still move freely and look at the pad material through the caliper opening every few days of a longer trip.

Fitment and Compatibility

For the rear of the XJ6 600 Diversion built from 2009 to 2015, Accossato gives AGPP89, and for the front AGPA22. One box covers the single rear caliper. A tour is a good reason to service the rear brake first: clean the pistons, measure the disc, and replace fluid that is past its interval. Pump the pedal until it is firm and bed the new pads in over some moderate stops before the bike is loaded.

Road Approval

No German ABE or test documentation is available. It is offered for competition use.
