DescriptionThe whole story▼

Take a passenger on a BMW R 12 nineT and the rear brake stops being an afterthought. There is more weight over the back wheel, the bike sits lower on its spring, and the pedal does real work at every downhill junction and every set of lights. Add a wet evening and the case for the Sintered (ST) version of the AGPA29 rear pad makes itself: Accossato lists it for the 2024 to 2026 boxer and describes a material that holds the same grip whether it is cold, hot or soaked.

Key Features

  • Rear pads for the BMW R 12 nineT, 2024 to 2026, article number AGPA29ST
  • Sintered (ST) compound: an even grip level cold or hot, and in the wet
  • Two pads per box, matching the single rear caliper
  • Slow-wearing material, useful on a bike ridden the year round
  • The AGPA29 plate is also made in the OR, STMX and EV1 materials
  • Front pads for the same machine: AGPA177
  • Accossato has been building brake components near Turin since 1969
  • No German ABE on record; supplied for competition and track use

Construction and Material Quality

Sintered (ST) is what Accossato reaches for when conditions refuse to stay the same. The description is about steadiness rather than force: the grip level holds high across a wide span of temperature, and standing water on the disc does not soften the first touch of the pedal. At the rear that behaviour shows up as predictability, the same pedal pressure giving the same amount of slowing whether the bike has stood outside a restaurant in the rain or has just come down a valley two up. The material also wears slowly, which matters on a machine that is used rather than stored. Two pads fill the box, and the rear caliper takes exactly that many.

A Pillion Seat That Gets Used

A passenger changes the arithmetic of stopping more than most riders expect. The extra mass sits high and well back, the rear of the R 12 nineT is pressed down, and the tyre will take more pedal before it protests than it would solo. Experienced two-up riders make use of that. They begin each reduction in speed with a touch of rear brake so the machine settles before the front is loaded, which keeps helmets from knocking together, and they use the pedal alone for the last slow metres at a junction. On a wet evening, with a passenger who would rather be at home, all of this happens in the dark on a surface that changes every few hundred metres: painted arrows, tram rails, a patch of spilled fuel outside a filling station. What you want then is a material with no moods. Afterwards, give the rear wheel a rinse, because salt and grit left on a disc overnight do more harm than the ride itself.

Fitment and Compatibility

The catalogue entry is plain: AGPA29, rear wheel, R12 1200 nine T, 2024 to 2026. One caliper, one box, job finished, although the pads belong on the bike as a pair even when only one of them looks tired. Owners whose riding is mostly urban may prefer the milder OR material in the same plate, while STMX is Accossato's answer for unsurfaced ground and EV1 for track events. The front of the R 12 nineT takes the AGPA177 pad, and Accossato has no disc in its programme for this model.

Road Approval

For this pad we have received no test documentation and no German ABE. That leaves competition and closed-course use as the honest description of what we are selling.

Scope of Delivery

Two AGPA29 pads in the Sintered (ST) compound in one box, the set for the rear caliper.
