DescriptionThe whole story▼
Bikes disappear for years at a time. A rider changes job, a family arrives, and a machine that was ridden every weekend ends up under a sheet at the back of a shed with a flat tyre and a note to deal with it in the spring. When the sheet finally comes off, the engine is usually the least of the problems. Accossato lists the AGS14 for the 450XC-W from 2009 to 2016, a silver clutch lever in the original form, which is often one of the parts a recommissioning needs.
Key Features
- Clutch lever in the original form for the KTM 450XC-W
- Accossato's entry runs from 2009 to 2016
- Silver
- Left of the bar, hydraulic clutch
- An original spare parts type, developed by Accossato to be affordable
- Accossato says the way these levers are made improves resistance after damage
- One lever
- No test papers documented; for racing and competition
Construction and Material Quality
Bringing an older machine back is easier when the parts are the ones it started with. The AGS14 reproduces the form of the clutch lever the 450XC-W was built with, so the cockpit ends up as the factory arranged it rather than as a collection of whatever was available, which also makes the next repair easier to work out. Accossato lists the part among its original spare parts types, developed with value for money in mind, and states that the production method used leaves the levers more resistant after damage or a collision. The colour given for this fitment is silver, and nothing further is published.
Three Winters in a Shed
Storage does its damage quietly. Air moves in and out of an unheated building every day, moisture condenses on cold metal, and any bearing surface without grease on it corrodes slowly for as long as the bike stands there. Handlebar controls suffer more than most, because the pivot is a plain bearing with a small clearance and nobody thinks to protect it. So a machine that has stood for a few seasons is worth approaching in a particular order. Do not force anything first. Put penetrating oil around the pivot bolt heads and the nuts and leave them while you deal with the tyres and the fluids. When you come back, hold the nut properly with a spanner that fits and turn the bolt slowly; a rounded fastener is the one mistake that turns this into a real job. Once the lever is off, look at the bolt and the bore for pitting and replace the bolt if its shank is rough. Clean everything, grease it and fit a new blade if the old one is bent, corroded at the pivot or has play. Then work the clutch many times before starting the engine and check that the blade returns fully every time. A 450XC-W brought back this way will feel like a bike that was put away properly, which is the aim, and the controls are the cheapest part of getting there.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato gives the AGS14 for the 450XC-W from 2009 to 2016 and lists no other original-type clutch lever for the model, while the brake side is covered by the AGD316 from 2014 to 2016. The clutch entry is shared very widely within this family and is catalogued with us for the Beta RR 390 4T, the Husqvarna FE 450 and the Husqvarna TC 250 among others, so one spare may serve two machines. Accossato's CNC levers for this bike are the B8303 and the C7303.
Road Approval
Accossato handed over no approval documents for the AGS14, so we can show neither a German ABE nor a test mark, and the lever is sold as a part for racing and competition.
