DescriptionThe whole story▼
A tip-over at walking pace rarely hurts the rider, but it leaves an awkward question behind: is the damage worth an insurance claim? On the R nineT, BMW's roadster built around the air- and oil-cooled boxer twin, the answer usually depends on a handful of small parts, and the front brake lever is almost always one of them. For the R nineT of 2014 to 2022, Accossato lists the AGD305, a black replacement brake lever in the original form, which keeps that kind of repair within a modest budget.
Key Features
- Original-type replacement brake lever for the BMW R nineT
- Listed by Accossato for 2014 to 2022, ABS versions
- Colour: black
- Right-hand lever for the front brake
- Designed by Accossato to give good value for money
- Accossato says its production process gives the lever more resistance after damage or a fall
- One lever in the pack
- No German ABE or test mark available; sold for racing and competition
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato describes the AGD305 as an original spare parts type: a lever that takes the form of the one BMW fitted, so the right-hand side of the R nineT looks as it did before the bike went down. The company developed its replacement levers with the price-to-quality ratio in mind, and it states that the way they are produced makes them more resistant when they are damaged or the bike falls. The lever is black, as Accossato gives it for this model. Material, dimensions and production details are not published, and we do not guess at them.
Claim or Pay It Yourself?
Before you phone the insurer, put a rough figure on the damage. Walk round the R nineT and list every part that touched the ground: brake lever, bar end, mirror, perhaps an indicator or the edge of a cylinder head cover. Then set that list against the excess on your policy and against what a claim might do to your no-claims discount in the coming years. For a slow fall with nobody else involved, the parts often add up to less than the excess, and many riders then decide to settle it themselves. If someone else caused the fall, the situation is different: photograph the scene, note names and registration numbers, and keep the damaged lever as evidence until the matter is closed. Whichever way you decide, do not straighten the old lever to save money. A lever that has been bent once can crack at the bend later, and the front brake is no place to find out. Once the AGD305 is on, with its pivot cleaned and lightly greased, check with the bike stationary that the brake light works and that the pressure point feels firm.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato gives the AGD305 for the R nineT in two periods, 2014 to 2016 and 2017 to 2022, all with ABS, and it is the only replacement brake lever on the list for this bike. On the clutch side, the black AGS194 covers the same years. At Inter-Pace, the AGD305 is also listed for the R 1200 GS, the R 1200 RS and the K 1300 R. Accossato's CNC levers EDB001 and EDB077 for the brake, and ESB002 and ESC075 for the clutch, are the alternative if you want a tuning part rather than a spare. Hold the product photo next to your own lever before ordering.
Road Approval
No test or approval documents, such as a German ABE or a test mark, are available to us for the AGD305. We therefore offer it for racing and competition use.
