DescriptionThe whole story▼
Two very different Scrambler 800s share the PP018 listing: the low, road-focused Café Racer and the Desert Sled, which stands taller on longer-travel suspension and spoked wheels made for dirt roads. Both meet sand sooner or later, whether it has blown across a coastal road after a windy night or lies deep on the track down to the beach. Sand is one of the few surfaces on which a motorcycle can go down at walking pace with almost no warning. Accossato lists the PP018 rear axle sliders for both versions of the Scrambler 800 from 2017 to 2018.
Key Features
- Rear axle sliders for the Ducati Scrambler 800, 2017 to 2018
- Listed by Accossato for the Café Racer and the Desert Sled
- Accossato PP018, a pair of protectors
- Aluminium and plastic, black finish
- Spacers, screws and remaining mounting parts in the kit, according to Accossato
- PF044 front sliders (Café Racer) and TP090 crash pads also listed
- No German ABE documented; for racing and competition
Construction and Material Quality
The PP018 set is made up of two black protectors in aluminium and plastic, one for each side at the back. Accossato, whose history includes an Enduro world championship title in 1985, says that spacers, screws and all other mounting parts are in the kit. On a Scrambler 800 that goes over, the sliders are meant to reach the ground before the swingarm and the rear axle area, which can reduce the damage there. Sand and grit wear them down, and that is expected; replace one when it has taken a heavy hit or worn thin.
Sand on the Road, Sand on the Track
On tarmac, sand gathers where the wind drops it: on the inside of bends near dunes, at the edges of car parks by the beach and in the shelter of walls. Treat any pale film on the road as a warning, slow down before it and cross it upright, without braking or changing the throttle abruptly. On a sand track, the rules change. The Desert Sled wants momentum, so keep a steady throttle, stand on the pegs with your weight slightly back and let the handlebar move a little rather than gripping it hard; braking hard with the front in deep sand tucks the wheel almost at once. The Café Racer, with its clip-ons and road tyres, is better turned round before the sand gets deep. Parking is the last trap for any Scrambler 800. A side stand sinks into soft sand, so put a flat plate or a piece of wood under it and park facing uphill in gear. Afterwards, rinse the sand out of the chain and look at the sliders, because sand is abrasive.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the PP018 for the Scrambler 800 in Café Racer and Desert Sled form from 2017 to 2018, and we have linked it on that basis. For the Café Racer, the PF044 front axle sliders are listed as well, and the TP090 crash pads cover both versions of the Scrambler 800. In our shop, the PP018 also appears for the Scrambler 1100, the Classic and the Icon. If you are unsure which version you own, the registration document or the frame number will tell us.
Road Approval
An ABE or comparable approval for the PP018 is not available to us, so the sliders are intended for track and competition.
