DescriptionThe whole story▼
BMW's S 1000 R took the four-cylinder engine of the S 1000 RR, added a wide handlebar and an upright seat, and became a naked bike that many owners ride all year round. Everyday use leaves its own traces on an engine, particularly in the cold months when journeys are short, and one of the first places to show them is the underside of the oil filler cap. For the S 1000 R from 2014 to 2018, Accossato makes the FP002, an oil filler cap CNC-machined from aluminium and anodised, with an M24x2 thread.
Key Features
- Oil filler cap for the BMW S 1000 R, 2014 to 2018
- Thread M24x2, as stated by Accossato
- Aluminium, CNC-machined, anodised
- Colours: silver, black, titanium, blue, red, gold, orange, green
- For other motorcycles with the same cap size once the thread is checked
- Pairs with the TS005 front brake fluid reservoir cap for the same bike
- No German ABE documented; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
The FP002 is machined from aluminium on CNC equipment and anodised afterwards, so its colour belongs to the treated surface of the metal. Silver, black, titanium, blue, red, gold, orange and green are offered. Accossato names the thread, M24x2, as the size that defines the cap; beyond the listed applications, it can be used on other motorcycles with a cap of that size. On an S 1000 R that is ridden often, the filler is opened more than once a season, so keep the thread and the face that seals against the engine free of grit.
What the Underside of the Cap Tells You
Open the filler of an S 1000 R that has done nothing but short winter commutes and you may find a pale, creamy film under the cap. It looks alarming, yet often it is simply condensation. The engine never runs long enough to drive off the moisture that forms inside a cold crankcase, and that moisture mixes with oil vapour where the air is coolest, just below the filler. A longer run that brings the engine fully up to temperature usually clears it. If the film keeps returning, or appears in summer too, have the bike looked at, because other causes are possible. Whatever you find, check the level only as the owner's manual of the S 1000 R describes, and open the filler only with the engine switched off and cooled. Wipe the residue from the cap with a clean cloth before refitting it. The FP002 deserves the same care as any cap: clean the thread and the sealing face, keep dirt out of the opening and screw it in by hand until it seats. Extra force does nothing for the seal and only makes the next opening harder.
Fitment and Compatibility
The FP002 appears on Accossato's list for the S 1000 R from 2014 to 2018. Its thread is M24x2, and Accossato adds that it will also suit other motorcycles with a cap of the same size. At Inter-Pace the same cap is catalogued for the S 1000 RR, the sports bike from which the S 1000 R was derived. For this naked bike, Accossato also lists the TS005 cap for the front brake fluid reservoir. All seven colours of the TS005 are available for the FP002 as well, so both caps can be ordered in one shade. If in doubt, compare the thread with your original cap.
Road Approval
For the FP002 there is no ABE and no test mark on file with us. We therefore sell it for use in racing and competition.
