DescriptionThe whole story▼

For many owners, the Monster 821 is at its most enjoyable on narrow country lanes in autumn, when the traffic thins and the woods turn colour. Those same lanes hide one of the slipperiest surfaces a rider meets all year: wet leaves, pressed flat by cars into a smooth, greasy layer, often lying exactly where a bend tightens under the trees. The front tyre is usually the first to notice. Accossato's PF049 gives the Monster 821 of 2014 to 2021 a pair of black front axle sliders.

Key Features

  • Front axle sliders for the Ducati Monster 821, 2014 to 2021
  • Accossato PF049 front fork protection
  • Pair of black protectors
  • Aluminium and plastic
  • Spacers, screws and all other mounting parts in the kit, according to Accossato
  • Rear sliders PP084 and crash pads TP080 also listed
  • No German ABE documented; for track and competition use

Construction and Material Quality

Two black protectors form the PF049, and Accossato makes them from aluminium and plastic. According to the maker, the kit covers everything the installation needs: spacers, screws and the remaining parts. On the Monster 821 the sliders have a simple role. When the front tyre lets go and the bike goes down, they are meant to hit the road ahead of the fork, which can reduce the damage there and to the parts around the front wheel. They are wearing parts, and after any slide it is worth checking how much of them is left.

Autumn Lanes Under the Trees

Leaves are at their most treacherous after rain, when a single layer has been flattened by traffic, and in the shade, where the road stays damp long after the sun has dried the open stretches. Gaps in the canopy make it hard to see what lies ahead, so the first rule is to ride at a speed that lets you stop within the distance you can see. Brake early and upright, before the bend rather than in it, and choose a line that avoids the drifts of leaves at the edge of the lane, where they collect. Keep a little more distance from the car ahead, which may stop sharply for a tractor or a deer. Acorns, chestnut husks and fallen twigs add to the mix on some roads. On the Monster 821, the gentler riding mode takes the edge off the throttle response on such days. And if the front does slide, check the sliders and the fork once the bike is back on its wheels.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the PF049 for the Monster 821 over a long span, 2014 to 2021, and that is how it appears in our shop. For the same model the list also gives the PP084 rear axle sliders for 2018 and 2019 and the TP080 crash pads for 2014 to 2018. The PF049 is shared with other Ducati twins in our catalogue, among them the Monster 797 and the Supersport 939. After mounting, spin the front wheel and turn the handlebar of your Monster 821 from lock to lock; nothing should brush against the brake calipers or anything else.

Road Approval

We do not have a German ABE or any test certificate for the PF049, so the sliders are sold for circuit racing and competition.
