DescriptionThe whole story▼

The S 1000 RR is one of the most common bikes on club racing grids, and a full grid means a busy first corner. After the lights go out, riders reach turn one side by side, braking later than they would alone, and a nudge or a small misjudgement can put a bike down in the middle of the pack. For the S 1000 RR of 2015 to 2018, Accossato's catalogue has the PF043 front axle sliders, two protectors of black aluminium and plastic.

Key Features

  • Front axle sliders for the BMW S 1000 RR, 2015 to 2018
  • Accossato code PF043, black
  • Aluminium and plastic construction
  • Two protectors per pack
  • Spacers, screws and all mounting parts included, according to Accossato
  • Intended to make first contact and help reduce damage at the fork ends
  • Pairs with the PP001 or PP017 rear axle sliders and the TP066 crash pads
  • For racing and competition; no German ABE

Construction and Material Quality

Aluminium and plastic, finished in black: that is how Accossato describes the PF043. Two of them come in a pack, and the maker includes spacers, screws and all the other parts required for mounting, which is handy when the bike is being prepared the night before a race. The description does not show how they sit on the S 1000 RR, and we do not add details that are not documented. In a crash they should make contact before the fork and the axle, which may reduce the cost of getting the bike back on the grid.

Turn One on Lap One

The first lap of a club race produces more avoidable crashes than any other. Tyres are not yet fully up to temperature, the field is packed together and everyone wants to gain a place before it spreads out. A rider who brakes a fraction late runs wide, another has to sit up, and in a moment two bikes are sliding towards the gravel. Most of these incidents are low-sides at moderate speed, in which the bike slides on its side while fork ends, bar ends and footpegs grind along the tarmac. For the rest of the weekend, a front end that needs only a new slider is far easier to deal with than a bent fork. Race organisers set their own rules for technical inspection, and some require particular protection or ban certain parts, so read the regulations before the event. After any crash, inspect the sliders and the fork before the S 1000 RR goes back through scrutineering.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the PF043 for the S 1000 RR from 2015 to 2018. For the rear of the same bike there are two options, PP001 and PP017, and the TP066 crash pads complete the set. With the sliders fitted, rotate the front wheel and turn the steering to both locks: they must not touch the calipers or the discs. The screws are tightened to BMW's figures and checked again after the first session.

Road Approval

No German ABE or test documentation is on file for the PF043; we supply it for racing.

Scope of Delivery
