DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Speed Triple R of 2016 was the higher-specification version of the updated 1050, fitted with premium suspension for riders who value precise handling. Such riders often ask whether the weight of a brake disc affects steering, and Accossato says it does. For the Speed Triple 1050 R, the disc on Accossato's list is the DK132: a floating design with a black carrier and a 320 mm friction ring that exchanges directly for the original. The listed years are 2016 to 2017.

Key Features

  • Floating front disc for the Triumph Speed Triple 1050 R
  • Listed for 2016 to 2017
  • 320 mm outer diameter, 150 mm inner diameter
  • 5 mm thick friction ring
  • Interchangeable with the original equipment disc
  • Black carrier
  • One disc per order; two fitted at the front
  • No German ABE on record; for circuit use

Construction and Material Quality

Heat and force are split between the two parts of the DK132. The 5 mm friction ring takes the heat of braking, while the black carrier holds that ring to the wheel and carries the force into the hub. Rivets connect them and allow a little movement. Accossato says it drew on its experience in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3 when setting the tolerances between the two parts and choosing the raw materials, and it describes the disc as interchangeable with the original.

Rotating Mass and the Handlebar

A spinning wheel resists being tilted, and the heavier and faster it spins, the more it resists. That is why the mass of the parts that turn with the wheel matters for handling. It counts twice: once as unsprung weight that the suspension has to control over bumps, and once as rotating mass that the rider has to lean over when changing direction. Brake discs sit some distance from the axle, where their mass has more effect than it would at the hub.

Accossato says the restrained weight of its discs is a real advantage for steering and control. How much you notice will depend on the bike and the rider, and we make no promise beyond the maker's own statement. On a Speed Triple R with a carefully set-up chassis, though, many owners value every detail that makes a quick change of direction easier. Remember that the benefit only lasts while the discs are healthy. A disc worn below the minimum printed on its ring has lost its safety margin, and Accossato warns that such a disc can break under extreme stress.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the DK132 for the Speed Triple 1050 R from 2016 to 2017 and names an ABS version of the R separately, with dates from 2016 to 2021. The disc replaces an original front disc; the Speed Triple R has two, and the price covers one. The Speed Triple 1050 S of 2016 to 2021 uses the same disc on Accossato's list. Levers Accossato names for the R include the EDF011, EDF099, EST333 and EST333P.

Road Approval

There is no documented German ABE for the DK132, nor a type approval; we offer it for racetrack riding.
