DescriptionThe whole story▼
Not every Ducati Multistrada 1260 lives for holidays. Plenty are ridden to work through the whole year, through rain, spray from lorries and, in winter, roads covered in salt. Those conditions are quietly hard on the front discs, which do most of the stopping: corrosion, grime and wear that builds without the rider noticing. Accossato lists its DKS053 floating front disc for the Multistrada 1260 from 2018 to 2021, including the 1260 Touring of 2018, with a black carrier and a 320 mm friction ring.
Key Features
- Floating front disc for the Ducati Multistrada 1260, 2018 to 2021
- Also listed for the Multistrada 1260 Touring, 2018
- 320 mm outer and 72 mm inner diameter
- 5.5 mm thick friction ring
- Five 8.5 mm holes on a 90 mm bolt circle
- Black carrier
- Accossato: fits in place of the original disc
- One disc per order; two needed for the front
Construction and Material Quality
A 320 mm friction ring and a black carrier make up the DKS053, connected by rivets that let the ring float slightly. Its carrier needs a 72 mm centre, and its five fixing holes of 8.5 mm lie on a 90 mm circle; the ring is 5.5 mm thick. Accossato says the careful choice of raw materials and the fine-tuning of the clearance between ring and carrier give its discs their stopping power, and it puts that down to its time in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3 racing.
Rain, Salt and the Daily Commute
In the wet, the first touch of the brake does not bite as it does on a dry day, because the pads first have to wipe a film of water off the disc. Riders who commute in all weathers learn to brush the lever lightly before a junction to clear the discs, then brake properly. The water that delays the first bite also carries dirt into the brake, and in winter it brings salt, which attacks exposed metal quickly.
A Multistrada 1260 used every day benefits from a simple routine. Rinse wheels and brakes with fresh water after salty rides, let the bike dry before covering it, and keep an eye on the discs, especially the rivets and the edge of the carrier, where corrosion likes to start. Accossato recommends replacing discs at thirty to forty thousand kilometres, or earlier if they are scored, cracked or worn below their printed minimum, and a daily rider reaches that distance sooner than most.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DKS053 for the Multistrada 1260 from 2018 to 2021 and for the Multistrada 1260 Touring in 2018. The front wheel of the Multistrada 1260 holds two discs, and both should be replaced at the same time, together with the pads. Tighten the disc bolts with a torque wrench to Ducati's values, and check the wheel bearings for smooth running while the wheel is out.
Road Approval
Without a German ABE or a type approval on record, the DKS053 is offered for track and competition use.
Scope of Delivery
One floating front disc DKS053 with black carrier; two are needed for the Multistrada 1260.
