DescriptionThe whole story▼
Fit new discs to a Ducati Hypermotard 950 and the first few stops can feel oddly weak, as if the brake had lost some of its edge. Nothing is wrong: the fresh friction surface and the pads have not yet formed the thin layer that gives a disc its full grip. Accossato lists its DKS053 floating front disc for the Hypermotard 950 for 2019 to 2025, a 320 mm disc on a black carrier whose ring is 5.5 mm thick when new.
Key Features
- Floating front disc for the Ducati Hypermotard 950, listed for 2019 to 2025
- 320 mm diameter, 5.5 mm thickness, 72 mm bore
- Carrier fixed through five 8.5 mm holes, 90 mm hole-centre distance
- Black carrier and riveted friction ring
- Interchangeable with original equipment
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- One disc; the Hypermotard 950 carries two at the front
- No German ABE documented, for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Start with the carrier: black, held to the wheel by five bolts through 8.5 mm holes on a 90 mm bolt circle, with a 72 mm bore. Then the friction ring, attached to the carrier by rivets that allow it a little movement. The supplier describes the disc as interchangeable with original equipment. Accossato says its discs draw on Moto2, Moto3 and Superbike racing, and that keeping their weight down helps the rider steer and control the bike.
The First Two Dozen Stops
Clean the new discs with brake cleaner before the first ride, since fingerprints and traces of packaging can stay on the surface, and fit new pads at the same time. Then find a quiet road. At moderate speed, slow down with steady pressure several times in a row, without locking the wheel or bringing in the ABS, and leave a short pause between stops so the discs can cool. Over the next dozen or so stops, increase the pressure gradually. What you are building is an even film of pad material on the ring. Until it has formed, avoid emergency-style stops where you can. On the Hypermotard 950 the lever will feel noticeably firmer afterwards, and the brake will answer more consistently from the first touch.
Fitment and Compatibility
Model years 2019 to 2025 of the Hypermotard 950 are covered by Accossato's entry for the DKS053. The front brake uses two discs, and the price is per disc. No second Accossato disc is listed for this model, while the EDF099 brake lever and the ESH011 clutch lever are.
Road Approval
The DKS053 is not covered by any German ABE, and no type approval is documented; please use it on the racetrack.
Scope of Delivery
