DescriptionThe whole story▼

Knobbly tyres wear fast in cross-country racing, and a Yamaha YZ250FX raced every other weekend sees its front tyre changed several times a season. Each change puts the front disc at risk, because a wheel out of the bike gets handled, laid down and levered, and the disc is its most exposed part. Accossato lists the DK268 for the YZ250FX from 2016 to 2021, a fixed steel front disc 270 mm across and 3 mm thick, interchangeable with the original, according to Accossato.

Key Features

  • Fixed front brake disc for the Yamaha YZ250FX, 2016 to 2021
  • One-piece steel construction from Accossato's off-road range
  • 270 mm outside, 118 mm inside diameter
  • 3 mm thick
  • Six fixing holes of 6.5 mm on a 134 mm hole circle
  • Interchangeable with the original equipment disc
  • Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
  • No German ABE documented; for off-road competition

Construction and Material Quality

The DK268 is steel-made and in one piece, with no carrier and no rivets between its braking surface and the six 6.5 mm fixing holes. These sit on a 134 mm circle around a 118 mm centre. At 270 mm across and 3 mm thick, it is made to take the place of the original, and Accossato describes the two as interchangeable. Accossato explains its approach with a background in road racing and a close focus on materials and tolerances.

When the Tyre Comes Off

Never lay a front wheel down on its disc. A 3 mm disc can bend under the weight of wheel and tyre if it rests on an edge or a stone, and the damage may only show on the next ride as a pulsing lever. Put the wheel on a tyre stand, or at least on a block under the hub so the disc hangs free. Keep tyre levers away from the disc when you work on the bead on that side.

Tyre-mounting lubricant is the second risk. Soap, paste or spray used to slide the bead onto the rim easily finds its way onto the braking surface, and a front brake that feels weak at the first corner after a tyre change is often contaminated rather than worn. Wipe the disc with brake cleaner before the wheel goes back into the fork. When refitting, guide the disc carefully between the pads so it does not knock against the caliper, tighten the axle and pinch bolts in the order Yamaha specifies, and pump the lever before the YZ250FX rolls. A tyre change is also a natural moment to measure the disc and look at the wheel bearings and spokes.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the DK268 for the YZ250FX from 2016 to 2021 as a replacement for the original front disc. The rear is covered by the DK168, listed from 2016 to 2023. The YZ250FX uses a single front disc, and one DK268 renews it. Fit new pads with a new disc and bed them in on the first ride.

Road Approval

There is neither a German ABE nor a documented type approval for this front disc; it is meant for off-road competition only.
