DescriptionThe whole story▼
The start of a motocross race is decided in a few seconds, and it ends at the first turn. A full gate of riders arrives there almost side by side, and whoever brakes latest without running wide gains places. On a Yamaha YZ250F that moment belongs to the front brake. Accossato lists the DK268 for the YZ250F from 2016 to 2023, a fixed steel front disc 270 mm across and 3 mm thick, which the company describes as interchangeable with the original.
Key Features
- Fixed front disc for the Yamaha YZ250F, 2016 to 2023
- Steel-made single piece from Accossato's off-road range
- 270 mm across, 118 mm centre bore
- 3 mm thick
- Six fixing holes of 6.5 mm on a 134 mm circle
- Interchangeable with the original disc
- Minimum thickness printed on the disc
- No German ABE documented; for motocross racing
Construction and Material Quality
There is no carrier on the DK268 and nothing riveted: the disc is a single steel part, 270 mm across and 3 mm thick, with a 118 mm centre and six 6.5 mm holes on a 134 mm circle. Accossato states that it is interchangeable with the original front disc. Accossato, a company from the Turin area since 1969, says its disc designs rest on racing experience in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3.
Into the First Turn
The first turn is where good starts are confirmed or lost. Riders arrive at full speed in a tight bunch, with little room to choose a line, and the braking point is set by the bikes around you as much as by the track. Late, hard use of the front brake is decisive, but so is control: a front wheel that locks in the loose dirt at the corner entry can end the race for several riders at once.
Preparing the YZ250F for that moment is partly about the brake itself. The disc should be flat and well above its printed minimum, the pads fresh enough to last the whole moto, and the lever set so that one or two fingers reach it comfortably from the attack position. Bleed the brake if the lever feels spongy. In practice, simulate race starts and brake hard into the first turn several times, because disc and pads behave differently at race speed than at practice pace. After the race, look at the disc. First-turn pile-ups are a common cause of bent discs, and a disc that has been hit by another bike's wheel or footpeg can run out of true without the rider noticing in the heat of the moment.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DK268 for the YZ250F from 2016 to 2023. For the same years it lists the larger, floating DK269, and for the earlier bikes, up to 2015, the DK111. The DK168 covers the rear from 2002 to 2021. The YZ250F uses one front disc, so one DK268 replaces it. Use new pads with the new disc and bed them in during practice rather than in the first race.
Road Approval
The DK268 is not covered by a German ABE, and no type approval is documented. We supply it for motocross racing.
