DescriptionThe whole story▼

Fit a competition compound to a motorcycle whose discs are past their useful life and very little will improve. That is worth saying at the outset, because the AGPA106EV2 is the article people reach for when they want more from the front of a Ducati Multistrada 1260, and the pads are only half of what does the work. Accossato presses the EV2 racing material onto the familiar AGPA106 shape and files it plainly as a compound for racing. The front listing for the 1260 covers the 2018 season.

Key Features

  • Front pads for the Ducati Multistrada 1260, listed for 2018
  • AGPA106EV2: the AGPA106 carrier in the EV2 racing material
  • Filed by Accossato as a racing compound
  • For closed-course use rather than for the daily ride
  • Two boxes needed, one for each front caliper
  • Two pads to a box, the set one caliper closes onto
  • ST, EV1 and ZXC are the other versions of this shape
  • No German ABE on record; competition part

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato's own words for this material amount to a single classification: racing. Everything else is left to the rider, and the most useful thing a rider can add is attention to the surface the pads run against. Friction material works against a disc, and a disc that has been in service for years carries a profile of its own, worn into it by whatever was fitted before. A competition compound pressed against that profile spends its first sessions reshaping itself to it. The plate, as always in this family, is the standard AGPA106.

The Discs Have a Say Too

There is a minimum thickness marked on every brake disc, and it is there because a disc worn past it cannot shed heat quickly enough or hold its shape under load. Long before that point it can develop a lip at the outer edge, fine cracks near the holes, or a face polished so smooth that new material struggles to key to it. Any of those will flatter a poor pad and waste a good one, and none of them is visible from the saddle.

The check takes a few minutes with the bike on a stand. Run a fingernail across the friction face of each disc from the centre outwards and feel for a step at the edge. Look at the holes in a strong light. Compare the thickness with the figure stamped on the disc itself, and if the two are close, renew the discs at the same time as the pads rather than bedding a new set onto a surface that will not last the season. A Multistrada 1260 used on a circuit finds out about worn discs far sooner than one used on the road.

Fitment and Compatibility

The front listing here names the Multistrada 1260 for 2018, and the pad fits the front wheel, which carries two calipers and therefore needs two boxes. The rear entry for the same motorcycle extends from 2018 to 2021, so the two ends of the bike are not covered over the same span; a 1260 from a later season needs the part it currently carries to be identified before anything is ordered. The rear article is the AGPA29 and the disc listed for the model is the DKS053.

Road Approval

No ABE, and nothing from a German test house, has been provided for the AGPA106EV2. The pads go out from us as competition parts for closed circuits.

Scope of Delivery

A box of two AGPA106 pads in the EV2 racing material, which is one caliper's set. The front of the Multistrada 1260 needs two boxes.
