DescriptionThe whole story▼

On paper it is an odd pairing: a racing compound in a motorcycle designed around pannier mounts. In practice a fair number of Hyperstrada 821 owners take the bags off, load the bike into a van and spend a day at a circuit with friends, and from the second session onwards the front brake is being asked for something no touring pad was drawn up to give. Accossato's AGPA177 in the EV2 racing compound answers that request, and it is catalogued for the Hyperstrada 821 of 2013 to 2016.

Key Features

  • Front pads for the Ducati Hyperstrada 821, model years 2013 to 2016
  • AGPA177 in the EV2 racing compound, article number AGPA177EV2
  • Accossato's racing material, offered in the standard pad outline
  • Two pads to a box, two boxes for the bike's twin front calipers
  • Also covers the Hyperstrada 821 with ABS
  • ST, EV1 and ZXC versions available for less single-minded use
  • Rear pad AGPA42 and front discs DK053 and DKS053 listed for the same bike
  • No approval paperwork on file; racing and track days only

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato's description of EV2 racing amounts to a single line: this is the company's racing compound. What follows is the ordinary logic of such materials. They are made to be used hard and often, they want to be warm before they show their real character, and they are a poor match for a machine that only ever makes short journeys. Nothing else about the part changes, since the AGPA177 outline is shared with the road versions and drops into the standard caliper. Two pads in the box, one caliper's worth.

Asking a Tourer for Race Pace

Honesty serves better than salesmanship here. A Hyperstrada 821 is not a racing motorcycle. It is tall, softly sprung and geared for the road, and no friction material will alter any of that. What a racing compound does change is one specific part of the day: the point, after a dozen laps of steady use, at which an ordinary pad starts to feel long at the lever. If your circuit outings are occasional and relaxed, the road materials in this range will suit you better and cost less. If you come in from sessions wishing the front had been as firm at the end as at the start, this article addresses that complaint and nothing else.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato's list names the Hyperstrada 821 from 2013 to 2016, in standard and ABS form, and places the AGPA177 at the front. Two boxes cover the two front calipers, and a wheel should never run one fresh pair against one worn pair. The AGPA42 is offered at the rear in several materials, while the DK053 and DKS053 appear in the disc section for this bike. Riders who want something broader will find the same pad in ST, EV1 and ZXC.

Road Approval

We have been given no German ABE for this article and no other certificate that would stand in its place. The AGPA177EV2 is accordingly sold for racing and track days.

Scope of Delivery

One box holding two AGPA177 pads in the EV2 racing compound, which fills a single front caliper.
