DescriptionThe whole story▼

A large adventure tourer is not the obvious choice for sporty riding, but the Triumph Tiger Explorer has a strong triple and a capable chassis, and some owners enjoy riding it briskly. For the 2016 and 2017 Explorer (listed by Accossato as the Tiger 1200 Explorer), Accossato offers front pad AGPA177 in its EV1 street/track compound. It targets the rider who brakes hard on winding roads and perhaps takes the big bike to an amateur track day, and who wants a strong initial bite.

Key Features

  • EV1 street/track front pad AGPA177
  • For the Triumph Tiger Explorer (Tiger 1200 Explorer), 2016 to 2017
  • Accossato: excellent grip for road riding and amateur track use
  • Stronger bite for a heavy bike ridden briskly
  • Two pads per box, one front caliper
  • Also made as ST, EV2 and ZXC

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato's description of EV1 is excellent grip for road riding and for amateur use on track. It is a step up from touring compounds in initial bite and is designed for firmer braking. The company's general claims for its pads are slow wear, resistance to fade by keeping heat under control and strong stopping power.

Hustling a Heavyweight

Riding a large tourer quickly asks a lot of its brakes: the mass that makes it comfortable on the motorway has to be slowed from speed before every bend. On a winding road ridden briskly, the front pads see repeated, firm stops, and a compound with a strong initial bite makes those stops more confident. On an amateur track day, the demands grow further. Preparation is essential: fresh fluid, discs in good condition, and pads properly bedded in. Remove the luggage, and remember that a heavy bike needs more distance to stop than a sports bike, whatever the pad. For long, loaded tours, the ST version of AGPA177 is designed for that.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists AGPA177 for the front of the Tiger Explorer in 2016 and 2017. Earlier bikes from 2012 to 2015 use AGPA58. The Explorer has two front calipers, so two boxes are needed. At the rear, Accossato lists AGPA76 for 2012 to 2017. Fit both calipers at once and bed the pads in with controlled stops.

Road Approval

No German ABE or test documents are on record for AGPA177EV1. It is offered for track and competition riding.

Scope of Delivery

Two AGPA177 pads in EV1 street/track compound, for one front caliper.
