DescriptionThe whole story▼
Forearm pump is the curse of motocross. Partway through a long moto the muscles in the forearms tighten, the grip weakens, and the rider starts to hang on rather than ride. On a GasGas MC 450F, with its strong pull out of every corner, the left hand has plenty to do: the clutch is used at the start, in tight turns and whenever the rear wheel needs taming. For the MC 450F of 2021 and 2022 Accossato offers the C7283, a folding clutch lever milled in Italy from Ergal 7075, with a long blade for four fingers.
Key Features
- Folding clutch lever for the GasGas MC 450F, 2021 and 2022
- Takes the place of the stock lever at the original clutch mount
- Long blade laid out by Accossato for four fingers
- Anti-break joint, Accossato's name for it, lets the blade fold forward in a crash
- Made in Italy from solid Ergal 7075 by CNC machining
- Blade in black, blue, orange or red, dark base
- One lever supplied
- No German ABE documented; motocross use
Construction and Material Quality
A long blade gives a tired hand more options. Accossato draws the C7283 for four fingers, so the pull can be spread across the whole hand when a full disengagement is needed, rather than resting on one or two fingers. The lever is CNC-machined in Italy from solid Ergal 7075, a high-strength aluminium alloy, and its stated goals are strength, low weight and reliability. It has a dark base that stays on the clutch pivot and a blade in the colour you choose, attached with a joint that allows it to fold.
Arm Pump in the Final Laps
Arm pump has many causes: tension, fitness, a death grip on the bars. One of the simplest remedies riders use is to relax the hands wherever the track allows, holding on with the knees and letting the arms work loosely. The clutch is part of that. A rider who fans it with a tense hand in every corner gets tired sooner than one who uses it only when needed and with a light touch. Setting the clutch control at an angle on the bar that keeps the wrist straight when standing helps too.
Fatigue also brings crashes. In the last laps tired riders make mistakes they would not make in the first: a missed line, a late reaction, a front wheel that tucks. When the MC 450F goes down on its left, the clutch lever can hit the ground hard, and the C7283's blade can then fold forward on its joint instead of breaking at the tip, giving the rider a chance to finish the race rather than push the bike to the pits. It won't save the lever every time, but it helps at the moment when fatigue has already made everything harder.
Fitment and Compatibility
For the MC 450F from GasGas, model years 2021 and 2022, Accossato gives the C7283 as a replacement for the stock lever at the original clutch mount. The matching folding brake lever is the B8283 for the same years, in black, blue or orange; red is only available on this clutch lever.
Road Approval
No German ABE is available for the C7283. It is intended for motocross and other closed-course competition, the setting for which the MC 450F is built.
Scope of Delivery
One C7283 clutch lever with dark base and blade in the selected colour.
