DescriptionThe whole story▼
With the 1190 RC8, KTM put its V-twin into a full superbike, wrapped in sharp, angular bodywork that still stands out in any car park. Plenty of owners ride theirs on the road far more often than on a circuit, and there the front brake shows a different side: at the moderate speeds of a country road, a superbike brake responds to the lightest pressure, and smoothness becomes the main challenge. Accossato's EDF099, listed for the RC8 from 2009 to 2016, is a machined aluminium brake lever whose reach you set for that finer kind of work.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the KTM RC8 1190, listed 2009 to 2016
- Fits the original master cylinder
- Reach to the grip adjustable
- Standard blade approx. 138 mm in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver and green
- Short blades in five colours, long blades in four
- CNC-machined aluminium with anodised finish and black hub
- Fixed blade, no folding joint
Construction and Material Quality
With brakes as strong as a superbike's, a lever's job is precision more than strength. The EDF099 is milled from aluminium on CNC machines and anodised in two tones: black for the hub, which houses the pivot and the reach adjustment, and a colour of your choice for the blade. It is rigid, with no folding joint in its length. When the difference between a gentle slowing and a firm stop is only a small change in finger pressure, a lever that passes that change on directly, without play or flex, makes the RC8 easier to brake smoothly.
A Superbike on Country Roads
Superbike brakes are designed to haul a bike down from very high speed lap after lap. On a country road at legal speeds the same brakes work far below their capacity, and the first part of the lever's travel does almost everything: a light touch is enough to slow for a bend, a slightly firmer one for a junction. Riders used to softer brakes often apply too much at first, and the RC8 pitches forward further than intended. The answer lies in the fingertips. Set the reach so that the blade meets your fingers where you can feel the very start of its travel, then brake early and lightly and add pressure only when you need it. Two fingers are usually enough on the road, and the short blade suits that; if you prefer three or four, the standard blade is closest to the original. The payoff is a calmer bike and a more relaxed rider, and on a machine with firm, sporty suspension, fewer abrupt pitch changes make the whole ride on the RC8 more comfortable.
Fitment and Compatibility
Fitment for the RC8 runs from 2009 to 2016, with the EDF099 mounted on the factory master cylinder in place of the KTM lever. The ESM011 clutch lever for the RC8 is listed from 2008 to 2016, starting one model year earlier than this brake lever, and comes in the same colours and lengths.
Road Approval
We offer the EDF099 for track use only, as no German ABE is documented for it.
