DescriptionThe whole story▼

KTM created the 1050 Adventure as the most accessible way into its big travel enduro range: the LC8 V-twin in a milder state of tune, cast wheels and a clear focus on the road. For many owners it was the step up from a mid-size motorcycle, and the first time they rode something with this much mass to bring to a halt. The Accossato EDB012 is a CNC-machined aluminium brake lever for the 1050 Adventure, listed for the 2016 model year. It replaces the original lever on the KTM master cylinder and adds an adjustable reach.

  • Blade in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green, hub always black
  • CNC-machined aluminium, anodised
  • Fixed blade without a folding joint
  • Delivered in an Accossato box

Construction and Material Quality

On a big travel enduro the front brake does most of the stopping, and the lever is the only part of it you touch. The EDB012 is milled from aluminium and anodised, with the hub finished in black and the blade in the colour you choose. The hub carries the pivot and the reach adjuster. There is no hinge in the blade; from the pivot outwards the lever is one fixed piece, so the fingers feel the brake itself rather than any movement within the lever.

Moving Up a Class

Riders who move from a mid-size bike to a big adventure machine usually notice two things at once: the extra weight at walking pace and the strength of the front brake the first time they use it firmly. Learning to meter that strength is the work of the first few weeks, and it begins with the lever position. When the blade sits within easy reach, the fingers can apply light pressure precisely instead of lunging for it, and progressive stops soon become second nature. A sensible way to start on the 1050 Adventure is with the standard blade, adjusted so that it touches the fingers at the first joint. After some weeks of riding you will know whether a short blade for two-finger braking or a long one for more leverage suits your style better; both are made in blue, gold, green and orange, and the short one in silver as well. A quiet stretch of road and a few deliberate practice stops are the quickest way to learn how the brake responds.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the EDB012 for the 1050 Adventure only for the 2016 model year. The ESA090 clutch lever covers a slightly longer span, 2015 and 2016, so owners of a 2015 bike should note that this brake lever is not listed for their year. The EDB012 mounts on the original master cylinder in place of the stock lever.

Road Approval

The EDB012 carries no documented German ABE. It is sold for track use.
