DescriptionThe whole story▼

Watch an experienced rider pull up at a junction and the bike simply comes to rest. Watch a less practised one and the front end dips and springs back just as the wheels stop. The difference lies in the last metre of braking. The CBR650F, a smooth inline four built as much for everyday riding as for fast roads, rewards that kind of finesse at every red light. This CNC-machined aluminium brake lever from Accossato, the EDF018, is offered for the CBR650F of 2014 to 2018; it fits the original master cylinder and has an adjustable reach.

Key Features

  • Brake lever for the Honda CBR650F, model years 2014 to 2018
  • Works with the stock master cylinder
  • Reach to the grip adjustable
  • Standard, short or long blade; standard approximately 138 mm
  • Black and red blades in standard length only
  • Aluminium, CNC-machined and anodised
  • Fixed blade, black hub

Construction and Material Quality

The EDF018 is machined on CNC equipment from a solid piece of aluminium and finished by anodising. Its hub, which holds the pivot and the adjuster, is black, and the blade is anodised in the colour you order. There is no folding joint: the lever is rigid from end to end, so the pressure of your fingers reaches the master cylinder without any play on the way. Machining from the solid also leaves the edges clean and the section even, and because the colour is formed in the metal itself, it keeps its depth after years of use.

Stopping Without the Nod

The nod happens because the fork is still compressed by the braking force at the moment the bike stops. When the wheels come to rest, the springs push the front back up, and the rider rocks forward and back with it. The cure is to ease off the lever progressively over the last few metres, so that by the time the bike stops, only a light pressure is holding it and the fork has already extended. It takes some practice, and it comes far more easily when the lever responds to small changes in finger pressure. Set the EDF018 so that the blade sits under your fingertips with the hand relaxed, and practise at ordinary stops: firm braking early, then a gradual release as the speed falls away. On the CBR650F with a passenger aboard, the calmer stop is appreciated twice over. The standard blade gives the most familiar feel; the short one, in green, silver, blue, gold or orange, suits riders who brake with two fingers.

Fitment and Compatibility

The EDF018 is offered here for the CBR650F of 2014 to 2018 and replaces the original lever on Honda's master cylinder. Accossato's own list keeps the model entry open for longer, but this product is limited to the years in which the CBR650F was actually built; its successor, the CBR650R, is not part of it. For the clutch side, Accossato makes the ESH065, offered for the same 2014 to 2018 bikes. Both levers share the black hub and the colour range, so they can be ordered as a matching pair for the CBR650F.

Road Approval

Because no German ABE is documented for the EDF018, it is sold as a lever for the track.
