DescriptionThe whole story▼

Benelli was founded in Pesaro in 1911, and just over a century later the BN 600 gave the brand a mid-size naked bike with a four-cylinder engine. Inline fours like to rev, and when the throttle closes they hold a bike back less than a big twin would, so on a BN600 R the front brake takes a larger share of the everyday slowing down. The Accossato EDF016 is a CNC-machined aluminium brake lever for this bike, listed for 2014 to 2016, with adjustable reach and three blade lengths.

Key Features

  • Brake lever for the Benelli BN600 R, 2014 to 2016
  • Mounts on the original front brake master cylinder
  • Distance to the grip adjustable
  • Standard length approximately 138 mm, in all seven colours
  • Short blade in blue, gold, green, orange and silver
  • Long blade in blue, gold, green and orange
  • Milled and anodised aluminium, black hub
  • Fixed lever with no folding joint

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato does not pour its levers into moulds. The EDF016 is cut from a solid aluminium blank on CNC equipment, which keeps the section of the blade consistent and puts the pivot bore in the same place on every part. It is then anodised: black on the hub, around the pivot and the reach adjuster, and the colour you select on the blade. That colour belongs to the oxide layer itself rather than sitting on it as paint would. As a fixed lever, the EDF016 has no hinge, and your fingers act on one continuous piece of metal.

When Rolling Off Is Not Enough

On a big twin, closing the throttle alone takes a noticeable amount of speed off. On a free-revving four, the bike tends to run on. Riders of the BN600 R therefore use the front brake more often and more lightly: a brief touch before a roundabout, a little pressure to settle the bike before a bend, a gentle squeeze when the traffic ahead slows. Small, frequent applications like these ask for precision rather than strength, and precision depends on where the blade meets your fingers. If the lever sits too far away, each light touch begins with a stretch and ends heavier than intended. Bring the EDF016 in until two fingers rest on it naturally, and the small corrections become easy to meter. For riders who make most of them with two fingers, the short blade in silver, gold, blue, green or orange is the obvious candidate; the standard length suits those who brake with more fingers or want the feel closest to the original. Changing down a gear to use the engine's own braking helps as well, and it keeps the four-cylinder of the BN600 R in the rev range where it responds most readily.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato's catalogue lists the EDF016 for the BN 600 from 2014 to 2016; our garage files this naked four-cylinder as the BN600 R. The lever fits the original front brake master cylinder in place of the stock part. For the clutch side, Accossato makes the ESD037, listed for the same years. The half-faired BN 600 GT is a separate product in our range.

Road Approval

No German ABE is documented for the EDF016, which is why we sell it for use on a race circuit.
