Komai in white is the brightest finish LS2 offers on this shell after the fluorescent one, and on a helmet designed for distance it is the version with the most straightforward case behind it.

Everything that is usually an extra

🔵 The emergency release is the feature you hope never matters. Tabs at the base of each cheek pad let a responder withdraw the padding before the helmet moves, which is the single most delicate moment in a roadside extraction.

It is standard here and absent from most helmets at this price.

1600 grams — the heaviest in the range, and why

The number is 1600 g ±50 g, mid-size shell, no accessories. We state it prominently rather than in a table because it is the specification most likely to change your mind about this helmet.

KPA shell, three shell sizes and ECE 22.06

„KPA" describes a thermoplastic formulation rather than a construction method. The construction is injection moulding, in three shell sizes, over an EPS liner with ventilation channelling.

🔵 Approval is ECE 22.06 and the helmet weighs about 1600 g.

No independent safety rating — and nothing borrowed from a sibling

🔵 The Storm III's evidence base is LS2's published specification plus ECE 22.06 approval. Everything on this page comes from one of those, or is flagged as a construction assessment.

There is no independent crash rating to add, and none is borrowed from elsewhere in the range.

About the Komai white, blue and red graphic

What decides how quickly a driver resolves a helmet is its value — how light it is — rather than its hue, and a white-dominant finish sits at the top of that scale. Against dark tarmac, against a hedge, against the back of a lorry in flat winter light, it separates faster than any coloured finish and considerably faster than a dark one. The blue and red elements add edge contrast on top of that, which is a second and independent mechanism: value gets you noticed, edges get you locked onto. On a helmet that will spend entire days in unfamiliar traffic, both are worth having. There is a summer benefit as well — a pale shell reflects solar load that a dark one converts into heat inside the liner, and at 1600 g this is a helmet you will be wearing for long stretches. 🔵 The cost is washing, and a touring helmet gives you more of it: fly strike, motorway film and brake dust all show clearly on white. Wash it wet and more often than you would a dark one, and keep the red out of prolonged sun.

Sun visor and the Pinlock in the box

The internal shield retracts into the shell rather than parking in your upper field of view, which is the difference between an integrated system and an afterthought.

Crown and chin intakes, channelled EPS

Ventilation is the specification most exaggerated in helmet marketing, because it is the hardest for a buyer to verify and the easiest to describe impressively.

Emergency release, closure and comfort

🔵 A new helmet should feel firm everywhere and painful nowhere. Padding compresses over the first few hours and again across the first season, so the size that feels right in the shop is often a size too large by the following summer.

Buy on the snug side and use thicker pads later if needed.

Where it sits in LS2's range

🔵 What the Storm III is not: a competition helmet. It holds ECE 22.06 for road use and no FIM homologation, so it is not eligible for FIM-sanctioned racing.

LS2's FIM helmet is the FF805 Thunder GP Pro FIM, which is a different kind of object entirely.

Care and replacement parts

🔵 Never repaint a helmet or apply solvent-based stickers to one. Paint solvents attack thermoplastic invisibly, and doing so voids the ECE approval the helmet carries.
