This is the most thorough application of fluorescent yellow on this shell. If being seen is genuinely what is deciding your purchase, it is the finish to choose out of all eleven.

A carbon shell in six sizes

🔵 A homologation is a threshold rather than a ranking. Every helmet legally sold in Europe clears ECE 22.06, so the approval tells you this helmet met the requirement — not by how much.

For that you would want an independent rating, and this version does not have one. The next section explains why.

No rating of its own — and what does transfer from the composite

🔵 We could quietly leave this section out, and most retail pages do. A helmet page that says nothing about testing reads as neutral rather than as a gap — and it is a gap.

No SHARP entry, no Certimoov impact result and no ADAC test exists for the carbon shell. It holds ECE 22.06.

Airflow that reaches your head

🔵 If your riding is mostly urban, ventilation matters less than the brochures suggest — there is no airflow at a standstill regardless of design.

Above about 40 km/h the two intake paths and the ducted EPS do their work.

About the Savage hi-vis yellow graphic

A fluorescent panel inside a dark graphic gives you a bright mark; a fluorescent finish across the Savage geometry gives you a bright object. At the distance a driver actually makes the decision — fifty metres or more, in peripheral vision, while also tracking a car and a cyclist — the second is meaningfully harder to miss, because there is no large dark area for the eye to lose the shape in. Compared with the Grid matt hi-vis at the same price, this is the more complete version of the idea, and the gloss finish also gets slightly more brilliance out of the pigment than a matt coat does. 🔵 Two honest costs. It is the loudest finish here by a distance and it will not suit everyone. And fluorescent pigment fades under sustained ultraviolet over years, so store it in a garage rather than a window — which on a carbon shell is good practice regardless. If you are weighing this against the Grid matt hi-vis at the same price, this is the more effective of the two and the Grid is the more restrained. Both use the same pigment and the same mechanism; what differs is how much of the shell it covers and whether the clear coat is gloss or matt.

Three visors, one helmet

Hardcoating is what stops a visor scratching every time it is cleaned. It is not indestructible, and the rule is the same on every helmet: wet it before any cloth touches it.

🔵 The quick-change system means swapping to the supplied tint takes about a minute and no tools.

Holding on, and letting go

🔵 Emergency responders are trained to look for cheek-pad release tabs. On this helmet they are there, and on a shell this close-fitting they are the difference between a clean removal and a dragged one.

Retention is a micrometric metal fastener on a reinforced strap.

The part you actually touch

Replacement cheek pads are the most useful spare available and the least often bought. A fit that has loosened over two seasons is usually corrected with thicker pads rather than a new helmet.

Carbon or composite — which Vector II to buy

Choose the finish on how you want to be seen rather than on what the small surcharge might buy in capability — it buys artwork.

🔵 The two carbon finishes and the nine graphics are identical in shell, liner, visor system and equipment.

Care and replacement parts

The internal sun visor and both outer visors are replaceable, as are the vent covers, the crown pad, the cheek pads and the neck roll.

Size guide

🔵 Glasses change the fit, and there are two things to check: that the arms slide in without catching, and that the drop-down sun visor clears your frames when lowered.

On a close-fitting helmet the first is worth testing properly.
