DescriptionThe whole story▼

The red-and-silver Silicium 2 shares its graphic name with the white-and-black colourway above, but Shark's own price data names this one "Carbon Red Silver" -- a different code, a different colour claim, and like three other decors in this range, no manufacturer photograph existed for it at the time this listing was built. It is created from the same price-list and Range Book entry as the rest of the line, with zero product media rather than a borrowed image.

ECE 22.06, unaffected by colour or photography

Same story on the paperwork as its white-and-black sibling: UNECE R 22-06, the current road standard. More strike points than the old 22.05 rule, each hit at several speeds, plus a rotational-force score that 22.05 never measured.

The shell, regardless of decor

Whatever colour code applies, Shark lists this shell as "Fibre": a fiberglass-carbon weave rather than solid carbon-aramid, produced across two distinct shell sizes around a density-stepped foam liner. This construction stays fixed across the range, buying weight savings over the plain-fibreglass Spartan GT Pro at a moderate premium.

Weight as a full-day consideration

1,465 g is what Shark states for the smaller of the two shells here, with the bigger sizes on a second mould carrying a bit more. In practice that turns into neck and shoulder fatigue across a full day's riding, building gradually with a heavier lid rather than showing up in the first few minutes.

Ventilation built to shut, not just to open

Three intakes at the front and two extractors at the rear run Shark's double-Venturi system, engineered to move air below motorway speed as well as above it. An independent Visordown test confirms both the chin-bar intakes and the rear exhaust ports actually close, letting this shell vent hard on a summer commute and seal tight for a cold one -- decent airflow per that review, not class-leading.

Visor: the same VZ300 platform across the range

This decor draws its visor from the VZ300 family also fitted to the Spartan RS and Spartan RS Carbon. Optical class 1 glazing runs 2.8 mm to 2.2 mm, secured by a central grip and lock rather than a side catch, arriving with a clear Pinlock 120 insert already in place. Blue, pink and red iridium finishes suit daytime roads; smoke, silver and rainbow stay track-only.

Sun visor and daily-use details

A single outside slider drops the UV380 anti-fog sun visor, no glove-off fumbling required. The mount lifts free tool-free for cleaning, glasses arms fit a cut groove in the shell, and both Sharktooth and SENA comms are listed compatible.

Safety kit fitted, listed without extras

An EPS liner stepped through several firmness grades absorbs impact energy, and the strap closes with a double-D ring. Cheek pads pull free via Shark's own Emergency Release hardware without moving an injured rider's neck, functionally an EQRS. MIPS does not appear anywhere in Shark's documentation for this helmet, and none is claimed here.

Interior

ALVEOTECH antimicrobial fabric lines the shell, shaped into 3D morphological cheek pads per Shark's own collection description. Independent review confirms the whole interior comes out for a wash. Six sizes span XS to XXL across the two shell sizes used in the range.

The colour claim, and its limits

"Carbon Red Silver" is Shark's own wording for this colourway, and it is used here exactly as supplied, without a photograph to check it against -- this is the fourth decor in the range where that applies, and the pattern is stated openly rather than hidden across separate listings. It ships with zero product media, and buyers should know the colour rests on the supplier's description alone. The same caution applies here as on every unphotographed decor in this range: read the supplier's own colour words as exactly that, words, rather than assuming a specific shade of red or silver that no image here confirms. The same holds for anyone trying to match this red or silver precisely to existing gear -- confirm with Shark or a dealer before ordering rather than relying on a supplier's short colour code alone.

The Spartan ladder, and where this decor lands

Shark's own price data draws four real steps: Spartan RS Fibre at entry level, Spartan RS Carbon above it, the non-carbon Spartan GT Pro with Sport-GT comfort but no carbon shell, and Spartan GT Pro Carbon on top. This decor sits in the middle of that top step, matching the other Mekarium and Silicium 2 graphic finishes.

On wind noise

No trustworthy independent decibel reading exists for this helmet, so this listing states none. BikeSocial credits the 22-06 generation's tighter, elasticated neck roll with reducing wind noise, at a small cost to how easily the helmet goes on; Visordown separately describes the wind noise in ordinary use as kept to a relative minimum. Both are editorial impressions, not measured figures.

Spare parts

One listing on Shark's site sells visors for both the Spartan RS and the GT Pro, and the Range Book shows the VZ300 part crossing three related Spartan models. A scratched visor is a spare part, not grounds for a new helmet.

What is missing, stated directly

No product photograph exists for this colourway at build time, and none has been substituted from a different code -- it ships with zero media rather than a misleading placeholder. No MIPS is fitted. SHARP tested a separate, older Shark helmet in August 2021, rated 4 stars, listed with no "Pro" in its name.
