DescriptionThe whole story▼
The same 6K weave under gloss rather than satin, which is the finish that makes carbon look like carbon rather than like dark grey plastic.
Carbon throughout — chin bar included
🔵 Be clear-eyed about what carbon buys you here. The composite HPFC version of this same helmet weighs 1600 g. Carbon saves 50 g — and costs more.
What it genuinely adds is shell stiffness, the X-Static lining, and a chin bar in the same material as the shell.
No safety rating — and why the Advant X stars do not apply here
🔵 This is precisely the situation where a rating gets transferred by mistake: two shell variants sharing one model name, and the other one was tested.
SHARP's entry records composite fibre at 1.6 kg. This helmet is 6K carbon at 1550 g. The stars belong to the composite Advant X, and its product pages carry them.
A flip-up with P/J dual homologation
🟢 P/J is the specification that matters most on a modular, and plenty do not have it. „P" certifies the closed configuration as protective; „J" certifies the open one as a legal jet.
🔵 Without the J, riding with the bar up is not covered by the approval. This helmet has both, under ECE 22.06.
About the gloss carbon finish
Gloss lacquer has depth that a flat coat cannot produce: light travels into the clear layer, catches the weave at slightly different angles across the curve of the shell, and gives the surface a movement that satin flattens out. On a modular helmet there is a lot of curve to work with — the folded chin bar, the hinge housing, the rear spoiler — and the gloss version is the one where you can actually see the geometry doing its job. It is priced the same as the matt version, so the choice between them is purely whether you want the shell to be quiet or to be looked at. 🔵 Two care points. Gloss shows swirl marks if you dry-wipe it, so wash wet and dry with a clean soft cloth. And as with every carbon finish here, the lacquer is the UV barrier for the resin below: no abrasive polish, no solvents, and out of direct sun when it is not being ridden.
Twin Visor, Pinlock 120 XLT and a tinted spare
🟢 Pinlock 120 MaxVision XLT is the top anti-fog specification Pinlock makes — 120 is the highest performance grade, MaxVision the widest field of view, XLT the extended coverage.
🔵 Included rather than sold separately, which on a helmet at this price is expected but not universal.
Chin and crown intakes, channelled EPS
🟢 A modular has a ventilation advantage no full-face can match — open the chin bar. At walking pace in a queue that does more than any vent design, and the P/J homologation makes it a legal configuration rather than an improvisation.
🔵 With the bar closed, the intakes and channelled EPS do the work.
Metal buckle and the Emergency Release System
🟢 The Emergency Release System matters more on a modular than on any other helmet type, because a flip-up is bulkier to get off than a plain full-face.
🔵 Pulling the cheek pads first removes most of the interference before the shell moves at all — which is the moment most likely to disturb a damaged neck.
X-Static lining and everyday comfort
🟢 X-Static is the carbon version's real advantage, alongside 50 g of weight. LS2 lists the treatment only for this helmet and not for the HPFC composite.
🔵 It slows rather than prevents the smell every used helmet develops. What actually prevents it is washing the lining, which takes two minutes here.
Carbon or composite — which Advant X to buy
🔵 Put plainly: carbon here buys stiffness, an X-Static lining and 50 grams. It does not buy a better test result, because there is no test result.
🟢 If that trade appeals, this is a very well-equipped touring modular. If it does not, the composite version is cheaper and rated.
Care and replacement parts
🔵 Carbon hides damage. A composite shell often shows a mark; a carbon one can look untouched over crushed EPS. If this helmet has taken a serious knock, replace it — the outside tells you nothing about the liner.
Everything else on it is serviceable without tools.

Size guide
🔵 Two shells rather than three makes trying this helmet on more important than usual. Within each shell pair, padding does more of the fitting work, so the difference between an XS and an L is partly foam.
Measure, then try. It should be firm everywhere and painful nowhere.

Specification
- Model — LS2 FF901 Advant X Carbon
- Part number — 569017099
- Colour — Solid — Gloss carbon
- Homologation — ECE 22.06, P/J dual homologation — approved closed and open
- 🔴 Safety rating — none. SHARP lists an „ADVANT X" at 4 stars, but records it as composite fibre, 1.6 kg — the HPFC version, not this 6K carbon shell at 1550 g. Brand list checked in full: no „Advant X Carbon" or „FF901 Carbon" entry; Certimoov has none. The stars are deliberately not carried over
- Helmet type — Flip-up touring — chin bar rotates 180° to the rear
- Shell — 100 % carbon fibre, 6K weave, including the chin bar. 🔵 Two shell sizes only (XS–S–M–L / XL–2XL–3XL)
- Impact liner — multi-density EPS with moulded ventilation channels
- Weight — approx. 1550 g (±50 g). 🔵 The composite Advant X is 1600 g — carbon saves 50 g here
- Sizes — XS to 3XL (seven sizes), no XXS. Prepared for Bluetooth intercom; no system supplied
- Optics — Twin Visor System — main visor plus retracting sun visor
- 🟢 Included — Pinlock® 120 MaxVision™ XLT, a complete tinted second visor and a backpack, plus a breath deflector
- 🔴 Tinted visor — daylight only — most European jurisdictions bar tinted visors at night
- Ventilation — chin and crown intakes, channelled multi-density EPS, rear exhaust port. 🔵 assessed from construction; no independent measurement exists
- 🔴 Wind noise — left unrated — no measurement published. Reviewers generally find modulars louder than comparable full-faces at motorway speed; that is an impression, not data
- Retention — micrometric metal buckle
- Emergency access — Emergency Release System — tabs let responders withdraw the cheek pads first
- Interior — X-Static® silver antibacterial lining on laser-cut foam; hypoallergenic, removable, washable. 🔵 the composite Advant X is not listed with X-Static
- 🔴 FIM homologation — none — a road helmet; no modular is FIM-eligible
- Serviceability — both visors, sun visor mechanism, cheek pads (several thicknesses), lining, vent covers, breath deflector
- Replacement guidance — after about five years, and immediately after any impact — carbon can look undamaged over crushed EPS
