The matt dark blue Dexter is the version that behaves most like a solid — the graphic is fully present at close range and the helmet reads as one deep colour from across a car park.

A chin guard that opens — and the P/J question

The Atom 2 SV is MT's all-rounder: a modular helmet aimed at riders who cover distance and want one helmet that does everything. Its feature list — sun visor, auto anti-fog visor position, included Pinlock lens, chin curtain — is unusually complete for the money.

🔵 What is not documented is a P/J dual homologation.

About the Dexter C2 finish

Deep blue is consistently under-chosen on touring helmets and it is the most practical coloured finish available. Insect strike and road film read as a grey haze against black and as an obvious film against pale colours; against navy they largely disappear, which over a two-week trip means a helmet that still looks presentable rather than merely clean-ish. Under a matt finish it also absorbs the handling a flip-up gets at every stop. 🔵 Deep colour under matt is harder to produce well than gloss — and it is washed rather than polished.

HIRP, ECE 22.06 and DOT

What you are buying structurally: a HIRP thermoplastic shell with an integrated rear spoiler concealing the exhaust, a polystyrene impact liner, and dual ECE 22.06 / DOT homologation.

🔵 What you are not buying is a composite shell or a low weight.

MT-ESP — a sun visor that meets the nose deflector

Three layers sit in front of your eyes on this helmet: the MT-V-35 visor, the Pinlock DKS512 lens fitted to it, and the extended MT-ESP sun shield behind them.

🔵 Between them there is no light or weather condition on a European road that needs a visor change.

MT-FSOS, MT-ESLS and the Pinlock in the box

The visor package is the strongest part of this helmet's specification: MT-FSOS fast opening with an automatic anti-fog position, MT-ESLS release with a ventilation position, and a Pinlock DKS512 lens included.

🔵 At 153 € that combination is unusual, and it is most of what you are paying for over MT's cheaper modulars.

The double-hook closure

A closure is the least glamorous part of a helmet and the one that has to work every single time. On a modular helmet, where the chin guard is a second thing that must not open, MT specified a double-hook engagement for the strap.

🔵 It needs its adjustment checked every few months, which a double-D ring does not.

A spoiler that hides the exhaust

The complete ventilation specification: a rear spoiler concealing the exhaust, and an MT-ESLS ventilation position for the visor.

🔵 Plus, on a flip-up, the chin guard itself — which at a standstill moves more air than any vent design.

Interior, fit and the chin curtain

Everything that touches skin comes out for washing, and the supplied chin curtain comes out too if you prefer the airflow in summer.

🔵 On a touring helmet worn for long days in all weather, being able to renew the interior is what decides whether it lasts five years or two.

Intercom preparation

„Intercom-ready" means the space and the routing are accounted for rather than improvised. On a helmet bought for long days that is worth having, even if you do not fit a system immediately.

🔵 Nothing is supplied with the helmet — the provision is the feature.

Where it sits in MT's range

MT developed the Atom 2 SV with the same R&D team as the Thunder 4 SV, and the shared thinking shows in the details — the visor systems, the closure family and the sun shield programme are common across the current range.

🔵 What is specific to this helmet is the modular format and the DOT approval alongside ECE 22.06.

When something wears out

Washing the lining is the single most effective maintenance you can do, and when washing is no longer enough, complete replacement linings and cheek pads are available.

🔵 Keep a spare clear visor if you ride year-round — a badly scratched one is a hazard on a dark winter morning rather than an inconvenience.
