The matt black Groovy sits between the plain Purist and the trimmed versions: a flat black shell with the Groovy line's finish and detailing, and no contrasting trim colour to date it.

Made in Portugal at Nexx's own factory, which on a retro helmet matters more than usual — most of the classic-styled helmets in this bracket are built under contract elsewhere, and the shell and the design rarely come from the same place.

About the Groovy Black finish

A jet helmet is handled far more than a full-face — on and off at every stop, carried by the edge, set down on café tables several times a day. That handling is exactly what a flat finish absorbs best: there is no gloss layer for a scuff to catch in, so the marks a city helmet accumulates simply do not read. Matt also suits the X.G30's unbroken dome, showing the outline rather than drawing a highlight across it. 🔵 It is among the least conspicuous versions here, and matt holds dry dust more visibly than gloss. It is washed rather than polished — there is nothing to buff a mark out of.

Six layers, three shells

Four market homologations — ECE 22-06, DOT FMVSS 218, CCC GB811:2022 and NBR7471:2015 — is more than most retro helmets carry, and considerably more than most jets at this price.

The shell is six-layer X-Matrix2 composite, made in Portugal, in three outer sizes.

What an open-face helmet does and does not do

Riders choose a jet for reasons that are entirely real: an unobstructed field of view, air on your face, glasses that go on and off without a fight, and a conversation at a fuel stop without removing anything.

🔵 What it does not give you is chin and jaw protection. There is no chin bar, and the open-face category under ECE 22-06 does not require one.

The dark sun visor — and the clear one that is not there

🔵 The most important optical fact about this helmet: the integrated shield is dark-tinted and it is the only screen supplied. Nexx's accessory range includes a clear external visor, a 60 % and an 80 % tint, iridium red and green, and a yellow HD.

For riding after dark or in rain, budget for the clear one.

Interior, X-Mart Dry and the Ergo Padding System

The X-Mart Dry fabric works in both directions: a cooling effect in warm weather through fast moisture transport, and extra insulation on cold days. On a helmet with no ventilation hardware at all, the liner is doing more of the climate work than usual.

🔵 It is fully removable, washable, sweat-wicking and anti-allergic.

The double-D ring

🔵 The most common mistake with a double-D ring is not pulling it tight enough, because the correct tension feels tighter than most riders expect. With the helmet on and the strap fastened, you should be able to get one finger under it and no more.

The chin-strap covers are removable for washing.

1320 grams, and the rest of the honest list

At 1320 g ±50 this is a light helmet, and on a jet the mass sits lower and further forward than on a full-face — so it feels lighter still. Weight is where an open-face wins without trying.

🔵 The absences are real though: no intercom provision, no Pinlock, no clear visor supplied, and no independent rating.

Where it sits in Nexx's range

🔵 The one version that is not just a finish is the Noiré Carbon. Everything else in the range uses the six-layer X-Matrix2 composite at 1320 g; the Noiré uses aerospace-grade 3K carbon at 1220 g, for 80 € more than the trimmed versions.

That is 100 g, on a helmet where 100 g is a larger proportional saving than on a full-face.

Accessories and spare parts

The universal Ergo Padding System is the tool for a fit that is close but not right. Rather than accepting a pressure point or a helmet that moves, the padding can be adjusted — which on a jet, where there is no chin bar to spread the load, matters more than usual.
