DescriptionThe whole story▼
Pure is the plain version of the Le Mans 2 SV S and the only one at 93 €. Matt black on a café-racer jet is the most period-honest finish available — the helmets this shape references were rarely glossy, and almost never decorated.
A café-racer jet — and which generation this is
The Le Mans 2 SV S is a café-racer jet — an urban and scooter open-face with a deliberately classic silhouette, and at 1125 g it is one of the lightest helmets MT makes.
🔵 A generation note: the previous Le Mans 2 SV was certified to ECE 22.05. This is the current „S" model on the 22.06 standard — a different helmet, and reviews of the older one do not describe this one.
About the matt black finish
There is a real risk with retro-styled helmets of ending up in fancy dress, and a flat finish is the most effective defence against it. Strip the shine off the shell and the classic silhouette becomes a shape you have chosen rather than a period you are re-enacting — which matters on a helmet as clearly styled as this one. The practical case runs alongside: an open-face helmet is handled far more than a full-face, on and off at every stop, carried by the edge, set down on café tables and scooter seats, and a matt surface has no clear coat for those scuffs to catch in. 🔵 Two things to weigh. It is the least conspicuous of the three finishes here, on a helmet used almost entirely in city traffic where being seen matters most. And matt is washed rather than polished — abrasive polish leaves a permanent shiny patch, and dry dust shows more readily than it would on gloss. Wash it with plenty of water and a clean cloth, and it will still look tidy in five years.
What an open-face helmet does and does not do
🔵 The Le Mans 2 SV S is an open-face jet. It has no chin bar, and the ECE 22.06 open-face category makes no provision for chin or jaw protection — a substantial share of impacts land in exactly that region.
That is the trade for the view, the air and a helmet you will put on for a two-minute errand. On a scooter in town it is a reasonable trade; at speed it is not.
HIRP and 1125 grams
The shell is HIRP — High Impact Resistant Polymer — and MT quotes 1125 g, which makes this one of the lightest helmets in the range after the Street S jet.
🔵 It carries ECE 22.06 homologation and DOT approval, so it is road-legal across ECE markets and in the United States.
The drop-down sun visor
The integrated drop-down sun visor is what the „SV" in the model name stands for, and on a retro-styled helmet it is the feature that makes it usable every day rather than only on the right afternoon.
🔵 Glare protection at the flick of a slider, with no sunglasses to carry and no visor to change — and it retracts completely when you do not need it.
Why there is no intercom here
🔵 MT states plainly that this helmet is not intercom-compatible. That is an explicit specification line rather than an absence of mention — there is no designed-in provision, no speaker recesses and no cable routing.
If you rely on navigation prompts or rider-to-rider communication, this is the wrong helmet. MT's Viale SV S at 72 € is intercom-compatible and otherwise comparable.
The MT-Micrometric+ closure
Retention is MT-Micrometric+ — a micrometric ratchet that fastens one-handed, adjusts in fine steps and works in gloves, which on a helmet fastened ten times a day matters more than the theoretical advantages of a double-D ring.
🔵 Check the adjustment every few months; a ratchet has a set position that can drift.
Interior, comfort and washing
The interior is fully removable and washable, which on a helmet worn daily in a city is the single most useful maintenance feature there is — and one MT's cheaper Street S jet does not have.
🔵 Wash it a few times a season. Sweat breaks down foam over time, and a jet's padding collects road dust as well.
Choosing the right size
Measure the circumference of your head around the widest part, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows, and compare it against the chart below. The Le Mans 2 SV S runs from XS to XXL.
🔵 A helmet you can rotate on your head by hand with the strap fastened is too big, whatever the tape says — and on an open-face, where there are no full cheek pads gripping the jaw, that check matters more than usual.
Where it sits in MT's range
The Le Mans 2 SV S sits in the middle of MT's jet range: above the stripped-back Street S at 47 € and below the fully equipped Cosmo SV at 106 €.
🔵 Against the similarly priced Viale SV S the difference is intercom compatibility — the Viale has it and this one explicitly does not. What the Le Mans gives you instead is 75 g less weight and the café-racer silhouette.
When something wears out
Everything on this helmet that wears is available separately: the visor, the sun shield, cheek pads and the complete lining.
🔵 What cannot be replaced is a crushed EPS liner. After a real impact the helmet is finished, however it looks from outside.

“Tops this category on a simple argument: it is the right shape, it weighs 1,125 g, the sun visor works properly and it costs 93 €. Scootering's tester makes the point that it clears the bridge of your nose — a small thing that most cheap jets get wrong.”
