DescriptionThe whole story

Dystopic is the only graphic in the Le Mans 2 SV S range, and it is carried on a matt black ground — present at conversational distance, invisible from across a street. It is the version for riders who want a decor without announcing one.

A café-racer jet — and which generation this is

A retro-styled helmet is bought partly for its shape, and it is worth being honest that the appeal here is largely visual. What makes this one worth taking seriously is that the certification is entirely current: ECE 22.06 plus DOT, on a shell weighing 1125 g.

🔵 MT also lists it under its EcoConscious programme — a materials and production commitment rather than a performance claim.

About the Dystopic B12 graphic

Graphics on a café-racer jet are a difficult proposition, because the whole appeal of the shape is that it is undecorated — a bold livery turns a period silhouette into a modern helmet wearing a costume. Dystopic avoids that by working in tone rather than colour: the design is fully there when you look at the helmet in your hands, and the shell reads as plain matt black at any distance beyond a few metres. On a helmet worn with ordinary clothes rather than riding gear, that restraint is usually the right register. Practically it inherits every property of the matt black Pure version: it absorbs the handling an urban jet gets, it hides road film well, and it is the least conspicuous option in the range. 🔵 A printed graphic also cannot be touched in after a scuff the way a solid colour can — and it costs 8 € over the plain version for artwork rather than capability.

What an open-face helmet does and does not do

🔵 One sentence that should not be buried: the chin and jaw region takes a substantial share of impacts in real motorcycle crashes, and this helmet has nothing over it.

That is not a criticism of the Le Mans 2 SV S, which is a well-made example of what it is. It is the fact that should decide whether an open-face suits your riding — not the styling.

HIRP and 1125 grams

The structure is conventional and appropriate: an injection-moulded HIRP shell to spread the load and resist penetration, over a polystyrene liner that absorbs energy by permanently crushing.

🔵 A crushed liner does not recover. After a real impact the helmet is finished, whatever it looks like from outside.

The drop-down sun visor

🔵 Keep the sun shield as clean as any outer screen. It is the surface closest to your eyes, easy to forget because it lives inside the shell, and a fingerprint on it is far more visible than one outside.

Clean it wet, never dry — road dust scratches it as readily as it scratches a visor.

Why there is no intercom here

A café-racer jet is arguably the helmet type that needs an intercom least: at city speeds you can hold a conversation without one, and the open face means you hear traffic properly.

🔵 Even so, the absence is worth knowing before you buy. MT lists no intercom compatibility for this model.

The MT-Micrometric+ closure

What a micrometric closure gives you over a simple buckle is fine adjustment. You are not choosing between two holes; you are setting the strap to the millimetre and clicking to the same place every time.

🔵 Set the strap length bare-handed at home, once, and the rest is a one-handed operation for the life of the helmet.

Interior, comfort and washing

🔵 A new helmet should feel firm but never painful. The lining beds in over the first few hours and again across the first season, so a helmet that is perfect in the shop will usually be loose by the summer's end. Start tighter than comfortable.

All of the interior comes out by hand for washing.

Choosing the right size

Head circumference gets you to the right size; head shape decides whether it is comfortable. If a helmet presses at the temples but is loose front-to-back, that is a shape problem rather than a size one, and no padding change fixes it.

🔵 Six sizes cover XS to XXL, and the removable interior means pads can be replaced if the fit loosens with wear.

Where it sits in MT's range

Within this model the price ladder is entirely paint. The Pure version at 93 € and the two graphics at 102 € share the same shell, the same sun visor, the same closure and the same approvals.

🔵 The cheapest Le Mans 2 SV S protects exactly as well as the most expensive.

When something wears out

Helmets are consumables with a long life rather than permanent objects. MT, like every manufacturer, recommends replacement after around five years of use regardless of condition — and immediately after any real impact, because the EPS crushes once and does not recover.

🔵 Never use solvents, petrol or alcohol on a thermoplastic shell; the damage is invisible at first and structural afterwards.

“Tops this category on a simple argument: it is the right shape, it weighs 1,125 g, the sun visor works properly and it costs 93 €. Scootering's tester makes the point that it clears the bridge of your nose — a small thing that most cheap jets get wrong.”
