DescriptionThe whole story▼

This decor doesn't carry one rider's name — it carries Shark's own MotoGP paddock identity, black and anthracite with red detailing, in a matte finish. Where the replica decors in this range trace back to a specific racer's livery, the MotoGP decor is Shark's own branding for the championship it's built helmets around for years, worn here on the same road-legal Skwal Cup shell as the rest of the line.

Shark has supplied and sponsored helmets in the MotoGP paddock for years, and this decor is where that broader relationship shows up on a road-legal shell rather than one rider's individual livery — a connection that spans more than one team and more than one season, part of why this decor is built to outlast any single rider's run of results.

Riders who'd rather not pick a favourite among Shark's roster of sponsored racers tend to land on this decor by default. It's the closest thing in this range to a neutral choice — no rider's story attached, just the championship itself.

Built and tested the way a race helmet is

Shark treats the Skwal Cup's rear end the way it treats a competition shell: shaped through computational fluid-dynamics simulation, then confirmed in a wind tunnel before production, rather than styled and left untested. The resulting spoiler manages airflow separation at the back of the helmet, which is what keeps the shell settled at speed instead of getting pushed around by turbulence — the same aerodynamic problem Shark's paddock helmets are built to solve, here applied to a road-legal shell riders can actually buy.

The MotoGP finish, in use

Black and anthracite keep this decor looking clean between washes, with red used sparingly enough to read as an accent rather than dominate the shell. The matte surface takes the scuffs of daily use better than a gloss finish would, and the restrained colour palette means it doesn't date the way a season-specific livery eventually can — a practical advantage over the replica decors in this range, which are each tied to one rider's specific season rather than the championship as a whole.

A rider who wants the racing association without picking a side in any one rivalry tends to land on this decor rather than a named replica.

A standard built around real falls

Real crashes rarely land square on the top of the head at one fixed speed — they twist, glance, and load the helmet unpredictably. ECE 22.06, which the Skwal Cup meets and which has been mandatory across the EU since January 2024, was built around that reality: eighteen impact points instead of five, several impact speeds instead of one, an oblique-impact test against an abrasive anvil for glancing loads, and a rotational Brain Injury Criterion alongside the older linear measurement. The rig also fits the visor, Pinlock insert and a comms unit before testing. No FIM suffix appears on this model's paperwork: road approval, not competition.

How air moves through the shell

One front intake and two rear exhaust vents make up the Skwal Cup's ventilation, a deliberately simple layout that leaves the aerodynamic shape at the back of the shell uninterrupted.

A full day, not a first impression

Pick a helmet up in a shop and 1,580 g feels light. Wear it for a full day's riding and that same figure is felt very differently, because it's the neck doing the work of holding it there the entire time, not the hand that lifted it off a shelf. That figure — Shark's quoted weight for the Skwal Cup, +/-50 g — is measured on the first, smallest shell; L through XXL, on the larger shell, will typically weigh a little more for the same construction. It lands roughly in the middle of the 1,250 g to 1,800 g band most of our road-legal full-face range occupies.

No fog, no photochromic

Fog is handled by the included Pinlock 70 insert on an Optical class 1 visor that releases without tools. Light-reactive tint isn't: the Skwal Cup sits outside Shark's IRID photochromic compatibility list, which covers the AERON GP, AERON and RACE R PRO instead.

Fresh after a long week

The Alveotech comfort liner pulls free without tools and goes straight in the washing machine — antibacterial and suede-finished, built to stay comfortable across a high-mileage week rather than only the first ride.

Fit logic

XS to XXL, on two shell sizes rather than one — so a small head isn't buried in foam to fill an oversized shell, and a large head isn't squeezed into an undersized one.

Construction over claims

Rather than a decibel figure this helmet doesn't have, here's the construction that actually addresses noise: a perimeter seal at the visor aperture and a chin curtain at the base of the shell, closing air leaks rather than masking them.

Comparing on the numbers

This decor lists at €339.99. That's above the Ridill 2's opening price of €189.99 and the D-Skwal 3's €219.99, and in the same bracket as the Skwal i3 (€319.99–€399.99 by decor) and the Skwal i Cup (from €329.99). The main thing separating this helmet from those last two, at similar money, is the LED brake-light system fitted there and absent here.

Spares, sourced properly

Shark's spare-parts collection lists compatible visors for the Skwal Cup, Ridill 2, D-Skwal 3 and Skwal i3 together — confirmation that a scratched visor is a manufacturer-supported replacement, not a reason to look at a whole new helmet.

The short list of what's missing

LED brake light: no, that's the Skwal i3 and Skwal i Cup. SHARP star rating: none exists for the Skwal Cup, only for the Skwal, Skwal 2 and D-Skwal. FIM suffix: none, ECE 22.06 only. MIPS liner: not fitted. Electronic quick-release system: not fitted. Tear-off posts on the visor: none.
