DescriptionThe whole story▼
Pearly white with no graphic at all is the version that tells you most clearly what the OXO actually is: a flip-back helmet that opens its whole chin bar rather than hiding a jet shell under a marketing name. Swing the bar up and back and the same lid that just did 120 km/h on a motorway becomes an open helmet for filling up or crawling through a car park, without taking it off. The gloss white shell keeps the shape itself the only thing to look at.
This finish, in the metal
Blank means blank: a single, deep, high-gloss white with the Shark logo pressed into the shell rather than printed on it. Gloss finishes show fingerprints more readily than a matte shell, and white shows road grime faster than darker colours — a helmet worth wiping down after a wet ride. In exchange, it is the easiest colour to match to a jacket, and the easiest one on which to spot a stone chip early.
One helmet, two configurations
The OXO is what Shark calls a Flip-Back helmet: the whole chin bar is a hinged, permanent part of the shell, not a separate jet piece bolted where a full-face helmet's chin would be. Two catches release it, it rotates up and back until it locks flat against the crown, and the same certified shell carries you from a closed, full-face ride into an open, jet-style one without ever coming off your head. That distinction matters, because helmets described loosely as "open-face" or "jet" don't have a chin bar to open in the first place — the OXO always does.
ECE 22.06, and the P/J approval that matters here
Every OXO carries ECE 22.06, the current EU standard that replaced 22.05 in 2024: eighteen impact points instead of five, tested at a range of speeds rather than one, plus an oblique-impact test against an abrasive anvil and a rotational Brain Injury Criterion that the older standard never measured. For a flip-up helmet, one further letter matters more than usual: the OXO's homologation covers both configurations, P and J — approved with the chin bar locked down, and separately approved with it locked back. Not every flip-up on the market clears both; this one does, on Shark's own certification claim.
Two shell sizes, two visors
Shark moulds the OXO in two shell sizes rather than one, which is why the visor family, VZ390, ships as two separate parts — one for the small shell, one for the large — rather than a single part that fits every size. It's a detail the price list spells out for every tint: each colour has its own small-shell and large-shell article number, and Shark's own visor page states it plainly, "2 visor sizes, 1 per shell size." A helmet built this way doesn't scale a single shell up and down across six sizes; it changes the shell itself partway through the range.
Weight as neck load, not a spec-sheet number
Shark quotes 1,660 g for the OXO's first, smallest shell — but that's not the only number on record. SHARP, buying and weighing an OXO independently for its own safety rating, recorded roughly 1.7 kg. MotorcycleNews weighed their own test unit at 1,880 g. None of those numbers is wrong; they're measuring different shell sizes, and possibly different accessory loads, and the spread between the lightest manufacturer figure and the heaviest independent one is over 200 g — which is the kind of difference you feel in your neck on a three-hour ride, not just on a scale.
Where this sits on the price ladder
Placed among its real neighbours from Shark's own 2027 range rather than in isolation, this OXO sits where a flip-up naturally costs more than a comparable full-face and less than a carbon one:
| Model | Price | Configuration |
|---|---|---|
| Shark Skwal Cup Replica Zarco GP de France 2026 | 339.99 EUR | Full-Face |
| This OXO decor | 349.99 EUR | Flip-Up, full-face and jet |
| Shark Spartan RS Fibre Blank Mat | 359.99 EUR | Full-Face |
Wind and noise, in both configurations
Two vents sit on the OXO's shell, one at the chin and one at the brow, each a simple open-or-closed switch rather than a graduated dial — Shark doesn't publish an exhaust-vent count, so this description stops at what's confirmed rather than guessing at extraction. On noise, MotorcycleNews reported no issues riding in open, jet-mode through town; a separate review expects the OXO to be a quiet helmet in general, while also noting that earlier Shark modular designs struggled at motorway speed. No independent source publishes a decibel figure for this helmet, closed or open, so none appears here.
The VZ390 visor and what it offers
Every OXO ships with a clear VZ390 visor, cleared for all users, and a Pinlock 70 insert fitted from the factory, with adjustable tension on the central lock and an anti-scratch coating. Replacement tints run from a TE50 light tint, approved for daytime use, through to a full Iridium range — blue, gold, silver, red and rainbow — explicitly marked "racing use only," meaning circuit, not road. No optical class is published for the VZ390 family, unlike the shared visor used on several other Shark road models, so none is claimed here.
Interior, sun visor, everyday use
An internal drop-down sun visor, intercom-ready shell recesses, a tool-free visor release, and a groove cut for glasses arms are the OXO's everyday-use features, confirmed by SHARP's own listing and Shark's product page alike. The interior liner is removable; whether it's washable, and what pad sizes are available, aren't published anywhere reviewed for this listing, so neither claim appears here. SHARP's own four-star rating, from a test dated May 2025, is the independent confirmation behind the safety side of that everyday package.
Who this decor suits
Blank Pearly White is filed as Touring and Street rather than Sport: nothing about a graphic-free gloss shell reads as track-oriented, and the flip-back mechanism itself is a touring feature first — the ability to open up at a fuel stop or a border crossing without removing the helmet matters more on long, mixed days than on a fast Sunday loop. Riders doing motorway miles and city commuting in the same week are the obvious fit; riders chasing lap times are better served by a full-face built for that alone.
Fit: what changes between the two shells
Six sizes, XS to XXL, split across two physical shells rather than one — so the fit character can shift once a rider crosses into the larger shell, not just the padding thickness. One independent reviewer described the OXO's internal shape as leaning oval rather than a rounder, more universal fit, and found it too oval for their own head; that's one tester's subjective read, not a manufacturer claim, but worth weighing against your own head shape before ordering rather than assuming a Shark model fits like a previous one.
Spare parts, and the shell-size question
Shark lists sixteen replacement visors for the OXO across Clear, TE50 light tint, dark smoke and Iridium blue, gold, red, rainbow and silver, priced from roughly EUR 31 to EUR 85 — and every one of them comes in a small-shell and a large-shell version, so ordering by tint alone isn't enough. The Pinlock 70 insert follows the same rule: two separate part numbers, one per shell, confirmed independently on the range book's own cross-reference page. Know your shell size before ordering either.
What the OXO doesn't promise
No MIPS, no EQRS emergency-release cheek pads, and no independently measured noise figure in either configuration — three real gaps, not oversights. SHARP's four-star rating is solid but is one test, from May 2025, not a guarantee; the exhaust-vent layout isn't published, so airflow claims stop at what's confirmed. And one independent reviewer found the fit ran too oval for their own head. None of that makes the OXO a bad helmet — it makes it a helmet with limits worth knowing before you buy, not after.
Warranty and what's in the box
Five years' warranty and spare parts genuinely available, not just promised — the OXO ships with its clear VZ390 visor fitted, Pinlock 70 insert included, and the internal sun visor built in and ready to use from the first ride, closed or open.
