Ein feines Element wirft eine naheliegende Frage auf: Ist es feiner als die Papierplatte, die es ersetzt? Darauf gibt es keine Antwort. Serien-Papierelemente tragen keinen veröffentlichten Mikron-Wert, sodass jeder, der PM01T12 gegen das aktuell im Airbox einer V85 TT sitzende Teil abwägt, ein spezifiziertes Teil gegen ein unspezifiziertes hält. Was sich vergleichen lässt, ist alles rund um die Zahl: ein Wert, der so lange lesbar bleibt, wie das Teil im Besitz ist, und ein Servicemodell, bei dem dieselbe Platte gereinigt und wieder eingebaut wird.

Ein spezifiziertes Teil gegen ein unspezifiziertes
Sprint Filter veröffentlicht für jedes verkaufte Gewebe einen Wert: 15.000 l/m²/sek für das Renngewebe F1-85 am durchflussstarken Ende, dann 80 µm für den P08, 37, 14 und schließlich die 7 µm dieses hier. Diese Zahlen machen die Reihe mit sich selbst vergleichbar – der einzige Vergleich, den ein Hersteller kontrolliert. Gegenüber der Originalplatte sind die sinnvollen Aussagen von anderer Art – dieses Element ist trocken, es lässt sich inspizieren, es lässt sich waschen, und seine Spezifikation ändert sich nicht mit dem jeweiligen Zulieferer. Nichts davon ist eine Leistungsbehauptung. Ein in einen unveränderten Airbox eingesetztes Element lässt eine Serien-V85-TT genau das leisten, was sie zuvor leistete; was sich ändert, ist ein Ansaugwiderstand, der niedrig beginnt und durch Reinigung wiederhergestellt wird, statt bis zum nächsten Wechsel stetig anzusteigen.
Wo sich 7 µm auszahlen
Die V85 TT wurde als Maschine verkauft, die eine unbefestigte Straße ohne großes Aufheben bewältigt, und genau auf unbefestigten Straßen hört dieses Medium auf, eine Abstraktion zu sein. Feiner mineralischer Staub hängt in Radhöhe, kommt kontinuierlich statt in Stößen an und ist genau der Anteil, den ein gröberes Gewebe klaglos durchlässt. Wird das Jahr stattdessen auf Asphalt verbracht, passt das Standardgewebe besser zur Maschine, und das dichte kostet Durchfluss ohne Gegenwert. Die Entscheidung gehört der Luft, die die Maschine tatsächlich einatmet, nicht der Art, wie das Modell vermarktet wird.
Pflege und Reinigung
PM01T12 wird regeneriert, indem Druckluft von der sauberen Seite nach außen geblasen wird, sodass eingeschlossener Staub denselben Weg zurücknimmt, statt tiefer in das Medium gedrückt zu werden. Reicht Luft allein nicht mehr aus, hilft lauwarmes Wasser mit einem milden Reinigungsmittel; gründlich spülen und das Element vollständig in bewegter Luft trocknen lassen.
