Most filter decisions get made once and then live with you for years, because a disposable element leaves you nothing to go back to. A washable one does not work that way. Both the standard P08 and this T12 come out of the airbox in the same few minutes, clean up on a bench and go back in unchanged, which means a 1260 can legitimately own two elements and run whichever the next stretch of road deserves. The Sprint Filter T12 PM127T12 is the specialist half of that pair: a dry polyester special non-woven filtering to 7 microns, drawn up for off-road use, dust and extreme conditions.
Key Features
- A dry special non-woven in polyester, holding back particles down to 7 microns
- Rated flow 560 l/m²/sec — about a ninth of what the road-going P08 weave passes
- Comes out and goes back in without tools beyond the airbox cover
- Contains no oil at any stage, so the tract behind it stays clean
- Fits the standard housing exactly; no modification and no remap
- Two-year warranty from the purchase date
Two elements, one airbox
A 1260 rarely does one job. The same motorcycle carries a rider to work through a wet winter, crosses a country in July, then spends a fortnight on mountain roads where every passing van leaves a cloud hanging behind it. No single medium is right for all of that, and with washable filters nothing forces anyone to pretend otherwise. Keep the P08 for the fast sealed sections where flow is worth having, put the finer element in before the dusty leg, and blow the other through while it waits. Neither is consumed by the swap; it takes a second purchase and a quarter of an hour.
Why the fine one is not the default
Because retention is bought with flow, always, in every medium. The standard P08 filters at 80 microns and is rated at 5,050 l/m²/sec; this T12 filters at 7 and is rated at 560. That is the widest gap in the Sprint Filter programme and on a 1260 twin it is not something to shrug at — the engine has a real appetite, and the finest medium in the range is also the biggest restriction in it. None of that makes the T12 worse. It makes it specific. Used where the air is loaded, it holds back a fraction the road element cannot; used on clean tarmac, it takes flow away and gives nothing back.
Care and cleaning
Air from the clean face outwards is the whole of the routine service, and a filling-station line will do it as readily as a workshop compressor. When air alone is not enough, wash the element in lukewarm water with a small amount of mild detergent and rinse until the water is clean. Give it open air until completely dry — heat and flame destroy the medium, so no heat gun and no oven — and fit it back dry and unoiled. The PM127T12 maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Ducati Multistrada 1260 and 1260 S of 2018 to 2021, sitting in the unmodified series airbox where the original element was. Eight machines across the Multistrada range share it, including the 950, both Enduro versions and the Pikes Peak models of either generation. The complete list is in the Fitment tab.
