An einer CB1000GT – einem Sporttourer, gebaut, um mit Gepäck Grenzen zu überqueren – ist der P14 eines der sinnvollsten Elemente, die diese Airbox aufnehmen kann: lange Tage, unbekannte Straßen und Sommerstaub aus Baustellen, dem man nicht ausweichen kann. An einer CB1000F, einem Roadster, der vor allem auf Asphalt lebt, ist dasselbe Element viel schwerer zu begründen. Beide Motorräder nehmen ihn. Brauchen tut ihn meist nur eines.

Der Tausch, den die Zahlen beschreiben
Ein Vlies arbeitet anders als ein Gewebe. Statt eines offenen Gitters baut es eine Tiefe aus Fasern auf, und so hält es weit kleinere Partikel zurück als das 80-Mikron-Gewebe des P08. Der Preis ist Durchfluss: 1.800 Liter je Quadratmeter pro Sekunde gegenüber 5.050. Bei gleichmäßigem Reisetempo verlangt der Motor nur einen kleinen Teil dessen, was beide Elemente durchlassen können, der feinere Rückhalt kostet dort also fast nichts. Die Kosten zeigen sich nahe Vollgas hoch im Drehzahlband – genau dort, wo eine beladene GT an einem langen Tag am wenigsten Zeit verbringt.
Wann der P08 die bessere Wahl ist
Eine CB1000F auf sauberen Straßen, eine GT, die auf gepflegtem Asphalt bleibt, ein Fahrer, der gern die oberen Drehzahlen nutzt: Für sie alle ist der Standard-P08 das bessere Element. Kein Filter macht eines der beiden Motorräder stärker, und der P14 behauptet das auch nicht – er ist eine Schutzentscheidung, gemacht für wirklich schmutzige Luft. Atmet Ihr Motorrad diese Luft nicht, schützt die feinere Matte vor einem Problem, das Sie nicht haben, und gibt dafür Durchfluss ab.
Pflege und Reinigung
Nehmen Sie den PM158P14 heraus, blasen Sie ihn mit Druckluft von der sauberen Seite nach außen durch und arbeiten Sie über die ganze Matte; das meiste, was ein Reisesommer hinterlässt, löst sich so. Bei stärkerer Beladung waschen Sie ihn in lauwarmem Wasser mit mildem Spülmittel und spülen, bis es klar abläuft. Trocknen Sie ihn in bewegter Luft bei Raumtemperatur – keine Heißluftpistole, kein Heizkörper, keine Flamme – und setzen Sie ihn trocken und unbehandelt ein.
