Staub verstopft einen Filter nicht durch sein Gewicht. Er verstopft ihn, indem er eine Schicht bildet, und die Wirkung dieser Schicht auf die Luft hängt von ihrer Dicke ab, nicht von ihrer Menge. Verteilt man dieselbe Tagesladung auf die doppelte Materialmenge, liegt sie nur halb so dick. Das ist der ganze Mechanismus hinter dieser Teilenummer, der der Katalog hundert Prozent mehr Filterfläche zuschreibt als der Standardversion desselben Vierzehn-Mikrometer-Vlieses.

Tiefe, nicht Gewicht
Ein belastetes Element ist ein Filter, auf dessen Oberfläche ein zweiter Filter heranwächst, und irgendwann entscheidet dieser zweite. Am Anfang leistet diese Schicht nützliche Arbeit; später ist sie der Grund, warum der Widerstand gestiegen ist. Da sich die Schicht mit einer Rate aufbaut, die davon abhängt, wie viel Luft jeden Flecken Material durchquert, halbiert sich die Rate, mit der sich Tiefe aufbaut, wenn man die Luft pro Flecken halbiert. Das Element bleibt nicht länger sauber – es sammelt genau so viel wie vorher –, aber es bleibt länger offen, und das ist der einzige Teil der Geschichte, den ein Motor unterscheiden kann.
Was das bei einem Roadster wert ist
Etwas mehr, als es klingt, denn ein nackter Boxer gibt seinem Fahrer fast nichts an die Hand, woran er sich orientieren könnte. Es gibt keine Anzeige für den Ansaugwiderstand, und die Motorsteuerung gleicht still aus, was der Filter auch tut, sodass sich ein Vierzehn-Mikrometer-Vlies weit belasten kann, bevor überhaupt etwas auffällt. Das hinauszuzögern ist etwas wert; es als Leistungsänderung zu bezeichnen nicht. Dieses Element macht eine Standard-R-1200-R nicht spürbar stärker, und das würde auch kein anderes Element in einem unveränderten Luftfilterkasten tun. Was es bietet, ist eine längere Strecke im Zustand, in dem das Motorrad die Werkstatt verlassen hat.
Pflege und Reinigung
Ein Vlies hält seine Last in der Tiefe der Fasern und nicht auf deren Oberfläche, was die Arbeitsrichtung vorgibt: Die Druckluftleitung geht auf die zum Motor gewandte Seite und bläst nach außen, sodass sich der Staub denselben Weg zurückzieht, statt weiter hineingetrieben zu werden. Macht Druckluft keinen sichtbaren Unterschied mehr, erledigt handwarmes Wasser mit einer Spur mildem Spülmittel den Rest, klar gespült. Danach trocknet nur bewegte Luft – kein Heizgerät, kein Ofen, keine offene Flamme –, und das K142P14 wird trocken wieder eingebaut. Das Wartungsblatt befindet sich im Downloads-Tab.
Passform & Kompatibilität
Gefertigt für die BMW R 1200 R von 2014 bis 2018, als Ersatz für das Standardelement in einem unveränderten Luftfilterkasten. Sechs Maschinen tragen diese Teilenummer: die R, die RS und die RT der 1200er-Generation sowie dieselben drei Modelle der 1250er-Generation. Jede erscheint mit ihren Baujahren im Fitment-Tab.
