Sprint Filter numbers its elements after the housing, which normally means the fitment list of one medium can be read straight across to the next. On this case it cannot. Five machines are built around the box; the dust nonwoven is catalogued for four of them. Whatever stands behind that, the working consequence is plain — where one housing carries several media, the list that counts is the one printed against the code you are buying.

Four entries, not five

The 368 machines differ in bodywork, seating and calibration rather than in what they ask of the airbox, which makes it tempting to treat any list drawn against the case as complete. This one is not, and the box does not explain the gap. It adds a step to the usual routine: with several media on one housing, read the coverage of the medium rather than the coverage of the machine. For the 368D that check comes out positive, which is better established before ordering than after.

What the finer mat costs

Flow, openly. Rated at 1,800 l/m²/sec where the woven cloth in the identical frame is rated at 5,050, this medium hands back roughly two thirds of the figure, and that is the entire price of it. What comes back is a much finer specification between the road and the inlet tract. What does not come back is power: no drop-in element makes a production motorcycle noticeably stronger, and this one surrenders intake headroom deliberately. The defensible gain is a restriction with a floor under it, since blowing the mat through returns it to where it began instead of letting it climb quietly until somebody throws it away.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air from the clean face outwards is the whole routine for the SM295P14, so the load leaves along the path it came in by rather than being driven deeper into the mat. Where a deposit has gone tacky, lukewarm water with a mild detergent releases it; rinse until the water runs clear. Drying takes patience and no heat whatever — circulating air at room temperature, never a flame, a radiator or a hot-air gun. The element goes back into the case dry and untreated.
