Eine XSR 900 aus 2022 oder 2023 hat inzwischen das Alter erreicht, in dem ein Motorrad Menschen begegnet, die genau hinsehen: eine periodische technische Prüfung, wo der Markt sie verlangt, ein Käufer, der es vor dem Geldwechsel gründlich prüft, eine Werkstatt, die das Motorrad zum ersten Mal sieht. Es ist zudem ein Modell, dessen Besitzer gerne etwas verändern, und die meisten Eingriffe an der Ansaugung hinterlassen etwas, das sich genau in diesen Momenten erklären lässt. Der Sprint Filter SM212S lässt nichts zu erklären übrig. Er ersetzt das Papierelement im Original-Luftfilterkasten und lässt Gehäuse, Luftführung und Kennfeld exakt so, wie Yamaha sie festgelegt hat.

Die Änderung, die keine ist
Das meiste, was an einem Naked-Retro-Modell verbaut wird, ist absichtlich sichtbar. Dieses Teil ist das Gegenteil, und genau darin liegt sein Wert bei einem Motorrad dieses Alters. Weil das Element im Serien-Gehäuse sitzt und kein Kennfeld angerührt wird, bleibt die Ansaugung so, wie sie typgenehmigt wurde: kein verändertes Ansauggeräusch, kein Abgaswert, der bei einer Prüfung abweicht, kein Vermerk in den Papieren beim Weiterverkauf. Sitz hochklappen, und was darunter liegt, ist ein Werks-Luftfilterkasten. Der einzige Unterschied ist, dass das, was darin steckt, auch in zehn Jahren noch da sein wird.
Warum dieses Medium und keines feineres
Sprint Filter baut auch engere Gewebe als den P08, und es lohnt sich zu wissen, warum diese kein automatisches Upgrade sind. Ein feineres Medium hält mehr zurück und lässt weniger durch; das P14-Vlies ist mit 14 Mikron und 1.800 Litern pro Quadratmeter und Sekunde spezifiziert, der T12 mit 7 Mikron und 560. Das ist ein Kompromiss, keine Rangfolge, und der Untergrund, auf dem Sie fahren, entscheidet ihn. Die XSR 900 lebt auf befestigten Straßen, und genau dort gehört die P08-Balance mit 80 Mikron und 5.050 Litern hin. Diese Balance ist auch beim Rückhalten nicht nachlässig: Gemessen an 100-Mikron-Partikeln hält der P08 93,13 Prozent zurück, während vierlagige geölte Baumwolle 76,42 Prozent schafft.
Pflege und Reinigung
Die routinemäßige Pflege besteht aus einem Druckluftschlauch und ein paar Minuten, von der sauberen Seite nach außen bearbeitet, damit der Schmutz das Medium auf demselben Weg verlässt, auf dem er hineinkam. Zweimal im Jahr oder nach einer schmutzigen Fahrstrecke können warmes Wasser und ein mildes Spülmittel hinzukommen, klar gespült. Danach kommt es auf Geduld an: Das Element trocknet ausschließlich an der Luft, fernab von Hitze oder Flammen, und der SM212S wird trocken wieder eingebaut. Das Pflegeblatt liegt im Downloads-Tab.
