Eine Tracer 9 aus diesen Baujahren ist inzwischen ein Gebrauchtmotorrad. Das Modell ist weitergezogen, der Zeitwert mit ihm gesunken, und der Wartungsplan hat sich kein Stück bewegt: dieselben Intervalle, dieselben Verbrauchsteile, dieselben Preise wie im Neuzustand. Jeder wiederkehrende Posten nimmt damit einen größeren Anteil vom Wert der Maschine. Der Sprint Filter SM212S ist der eine Punkt auf dieser Liste, den ein Besitzer endgültig abhaken kann. Es handelt sich um ein trockenes Polyester-Element für den Luftfilterkasten der Tracer 9 und Tracer 9 GT von 2021 bis 2024 – einmal gekauft statt fortlaufend eingeplant.

- Wird für die gesamte Lebensdauer des Motorrads freigeblasen und wiedereingebaut, mit zwei Jahren Garantie
Die Rechnung, die den Wertverlust ignoriert
Der Wertverlust ist die lauteste Zahl beim Gebrauchtmotorrad-Besitz und zugleich die am wenigsten nützliche, denn nichts sonst an der Maschine reagiert darauf. Das Filterintervall ganz sicher nicht. Tracer-Fahrer legen Strecke zurück und behalten ihre Motorräder lange, sodass Wartungsintervalle hier schnell fällig werden und das Papierelement deutlich häufiger ausgetauscht wird als bei einem reinen Wochenendmotorrad. Zählt man die noch bevorstehenden Services einer Maschine von 2021 statt der bereits erledigten, dreht sich die Rechnung um: Das wiederverwendbare Element ist einmal teurer und danach kostenlos, das Wegwerfteil einmal billig und danach jede Saison erneut fällig.
Was sich tatsächlich verbessert
Nicht die Leistung: Ein Filter im Serien-Gehäuse macht einen Serien-Dreizylinder nicht schneller, und eine ehrliche Beschreibung sagt das früh. Was sich ändert, ist der Verlauf des Ansaugwiderstands über die Zeit. Eine Papierpatrone ist am Tag des Einbaus am besten und setzt sich von da an stetig zu, und weil das Monate dauert, fällt es nie auf. Dieses Element startet niedrig und wird bei jeder Reinigung wieder auf denselben Wert zurückgesetzt, sodass die Woche vor einem Service genauso atmet wie die Woche danach. Die Rückhaltung wird dafür nicht geopfert: Der P08 hält 93,13 Prozent der 100-Mikron-Partikel zurück, gegenüber 76,42 Prozent bei vierlagiger geölter Baumwolle.
Pflege und Reinigung
Da das Element trocken ist, bedeutet Wartung, Schmutz zu entfernen, nicht Chemie zu erneuern. An erster Stelle steht Luft, von der sauberen Seite nach außen gerichtet, damit der Schmutz denselben Weg zurücknimmt, den er hereinkam. Wasser mit mildem Reinigungsmittel folgt, wenn eine harte Saison es verlangt, gründlich gespült. Danach trocknet der SM212S ausschließlich an der Luft, nie über Hitze und nie in Flammennähe, und wird erst wieder eingebaut, wenn er ganz durchgetrocknet ist.
