Über weite Strecken ist die GSX-S950 dasselbe Motorrad wie das Modell darüber: derselbe Rahmen, derselbe Luftfilterkasten, derselbe Ansaugtrakt, ein Motor in milderer Abstimmung. Das macht sie zu einem guten Ausgangspunkt, um ehrlich zu sagen, was ein Luftfilter eigentlich ist. Sitzt ein identisches Element in einem identischen Gehäuse bei einer Maschine, die bewusst weniger Leistung entfaltet, dann war der Filter nie das Bauteil, das die Zahl bestimmt hat. Ein Sprint Filter P08 PM236S bringt einer Serien-GSX-S950 keine zusätzliche Leistung, und das tut kein Einsteckelement. Was er kann, ist den Widerstand zurückzugeben, den er selbst verursacht, diesen niedrigen Wert zu halten, statt ihn mit den Kilometern steigen zu lassen, und als Bauteil im Motorrad zu bleiben, das Sie reinigen statt immer wieder neu zu kaufen.

Auch mildere Abstimmung bewegt dieselbe Luftmenge
Die Abstimmung ändert, wie viel Drehmoment ein Motor entwickelt; sie ändert deutlich weniger daran, wie viel Luft bei einem forschen Hochschalten durch den Luftfilterkasten strömt. Ein großer Vierzylinder verlangt so oder so viel, und ein Filter, der eine Saison lang Schmutz gesammelt hat, braucht auf der sauberen Seite mehr Unterdruck für dieselbe Füllung. Nichts davon zeigt sich als Fehler – nur als leicht stumpferer Topspeed-Bereich und ein über Monate steigender Verbrauch, die Art Veränderung, an die sich ein Fahrer gewöhnt, statt sie zu bemerken. Der Sinn eines waschbaren Elements liegt nicht darin, Papier im Neuzustand zu übertreffen; er liegt darin, den ursprünglichen Zustand jederzeit wiederherstellen zu können.
Trockenes Polyester und der Preis eines feineren Gewebes
Der P08 ist eine einzelne Lage gewebtes Polyester aus Fäden ab 22 Mikrometern Durchmesser und arbeitet trocken. Es gibt keinen Ölfilm vor den Drosselklappen und nichts, das nach einer Wäsche nachbehandelt werden müsste. Sprint Filter maß bei vierlagiger geölter Baumwolle eine Rückhalterate von 76,42 Prozent bei 100-Mikrometer-Testpartikeln, gegenüber 93,13 Prozent beim trockenen P08. Wo die Luft anspruchsvoller ist, webt die Baureihe feiner – P037 mit 37 Mikrometern, P14 mit 14, T12 mit 7 –, und jede Stufe kostet Durchfluss: Der P08 lässt 5.050 Liter pro Quadratmeter und Sekunde durch, der P14 noch 1.800. Ein Kompromiss, keine Rangfolge, und für ein Straßenmotorrad liegt der P08 auf der richtigen Seite davon.
Pflege und Reinigung
Die normale Wartung ist eine Sache von zwei Minuten: Druckluft von der sauberen Seite durch das Element nach außen. Braucht es mehr, wird der PM236S in lauwarmem Wasser mit einem milden Reinigungsmittel gewaschen, gespült, bis das Wasser klar bleibt, und trocknet anschließend vollständig an der frischen Luft – nie mit Hitze, nie mit einer Flamme.
