Der LC4 in einer 690 ist einer der letzten Motorradmotoren, bei denen wirklich erwartet wird, dass man ihn öffnet. Kolben, Ventile und Kupplung sind veröffentlichte Wartungspunkte mit festen Intervallen, und die Besitzer dieser Motorräder erledigen diese Arbeit meist selbst, statt sie abzugeben. Ein für die Lebensdauer des Motorrads ausgelegter Luftfilter passt aus der entgegengesetzten Richtung zu diesem Besitzverhalten: Er ist das eine Ansaugteil, das komplett von der Ersatzteilliste verschwindet. PM74S ist trockenes Polyestergewebe im Standardgehäuse, gewaschen und wieder eingebaut, solange das Motorrad gefahren wird.

Ein Motor, der zum Öffnen gebaut ist, ein Filter, der es nicht sein muss
Eine ordentlich gepflegte 690 hatte mindestens einmal den Zylinderkopf offen. Das ist bei diesem Motor normal und mit ein Grund, warum die Motorräder auf der Straße bleiben. Der Luftfilter ist im selben Ansaugtrakt das gegenteilige Bauteil: gedacht zum Ausbauen, Reinigen und Wiedereinbauen, ohne jemals neu gekauft zu werden. Sprint Filter legt das Element für die Lebensdauer des Motorrads aus, was bei einer Maschine wie dieser sehr viele Reinigungszyklen bedeutet. Trockenes Polyester kehrt bei jeder Wäsche nahe an seine veröffentlichten Werte zurück, statt sich stetig davon zu entfernen, bis jemand ein neues Element einbaut.
Was ein großer Einzylinder davon nicht bekommt
Leistung. Ein Einzylinder dieser Größe hat ein lautes, dramatisches Ansauggeräusch, und es ist verlockend, das Element als Tuningteil zu lesen – ist es aber nicht, und es macht eine Standard-690 nicht spürbar stärker: Drosselklappe, Nockenwelle und Abstimmung setzen die Obergrenze, und ein Element in einem unveränderten Luftfilterkasten rührt keinen davon an. Was es bewirkt, ist, dass der Ansaugwiderstand zwischen den Services nicht ansteigt, und es entfernt Öl vollständig aus dem Ansaugtrakt, sodass nichts stromabwärts wandern kann. Bei einem Motorrad, dessen eigene Produktion 2018 endete, gibt es noch ein zweites, leiseres Argument: Die Teilenummer bleibt aktuell, weil andere Maschinen noch auf demselben Gehäuse gebaut werden.
Pflege und Reinigung
Zuerst Druckluft, von der sauberen Seite durch das Element nach außen. Warmes Wasser mit einem milden Reinigungsmittel, sobald Luft nichts mehr löst, danach spülen, bis das Wasser klar abläuft. Ausschließlich an der Luft trocknen, weit weg von Heißluftpistolen und Flammen, und erst wieder einbauen, wenn es komplett durchgetrocknet ist – das Material darf niemals mit Hitze getrocknet werden. Passform & Kompatibilität
Für die KTM 690 SMC R und 690 Enduro R, gebaut zwischen 2008 und 2018. Dasselbe Element bedient auch die Husqvarna 701 Enduro und 701 Supermoto, insgesamt drei Maschinen, vollständig aufgeführt im Fitment-Tab. Diese beiden Husqvarnas werden noch produziert, was bei der Beschaffung von Verschleißteilen für eine KTM mit eingestellter Produktion wissenswert ist.
