Ein Modellname kann stillhalten, während sich das Motorrad darunter verändert. Für 2021 behielt der Grom sein Emblem und wechselte seinen Motor: ein überarbeiteter 125er-Einzylinder und ein fünfter Gang in einem Getriebe, das bislang mit vier ausgekommen war. Die Hardware, die diesen Motor versorgt, wurde im selben Zug neu gezeichnet, weshalb Sprint Filter für diese Generation ein eigenes Element listet, statt das alte weiterzuführen. Der SM224S ist dieses Element – trockenes Gewebe-Polyester, zugeschnitten und gerahmt für den Luftfilterkasten, den dieser Grom tatsächlich hat.

Eine Überarbeitung, die das Emblem nicht erwähnt
Was Honda 2021 verändert hat, liegt größtenteils im Verborgenen. Der Motor wurde überarbeitet, das Getriebe erhielt eine zusätzliche Übersetzung, und die Teile, die den Motor versorgen, wurden im selben Zug überarbeitet. Sprint Filter baut ein Element um einen Kasten, nie um einen Namen, weshalb der Kasten bei einer Änderung im Katalog eine neue Nummer erhält statt eines zusätzlichen Jahres bei einem bestehenden Eintrag. Genau deshalb steht dieses Teil neben dem älteren: zwei Formen für zwei Maschinen, die zufällig dasselbe Emblem tragen. Für einen Besitzer ist das eine Prüfung in einer Zeile – die Jahre im Eintrag, nicht die Buchstaben auf dem Seitendeckel.
Wofür ein solches Element ehrlich gedacht ist
Schneller macht es eine 125er nicht, und wer es so verkauft, verkauft etwas anderes. Ein Straßenmotor dieser Größe wird von seiner Serienansaugung bequem versorgt; der Filter war nie das, was ihn bremste. Was sich ändert, ist die Form der Wartungskurve. Ein Papierpanel verlässt den Laden in Bestform und schließt sich von da an stetig, sodass der Widerstand, gegen den der Motor am Tag eines Services atmet, nicht derselbe ist wie sechs Monate später. Ein sauber durchgeblasenes Gewebepanel kehrt immer wieder an seinen Ausgangspunkt zurück, so lange das Motorrad auf der Straße ist. Das ist ein kleinerer Anspruch als eine Leistungszahl, und ein weitaus leichter einzuhaltender.
Pflege und Reinigung
Die Wartung ist trockene Arbeit. Druckluft ist die Routine: auf die saubere Seite richten, damit der Schmutz auf demselben Weg zurückgedrückt wird, auf dem er kam. Nach einer harten Saison leistet lauwarmes Wasser mit mildem Reinigungsmittel mehr; spülen, bis das Wasser klar abläuft. Dann an bewegter Luft von selbst trocknen lassen – keine Heißluftpistole, kein Fön, keine Flamme in der Nähe – und den SM224S erst wieder einsetzen, wenn er ganz durchgetrocknet ist. Passgenauigkeit & Kompatibilität
Gebaut für den Honda Grom der Baujahre 2021 bis 2026. Dasselbe Element deckt auch die MSX125 derselben Jahre ab, Hondas anderer Name für diese Maschine, weshalb die Passgenauigkeitsliste zwei Einträge für einen Luftfilterkasten zeigt. Beide stehen im Fitment-Tab.
