Eine Airbox ist mehr als nur ein Behälter. Ihr Volumen, ihr Einlass und der Weg, den die Luft bis dorthin zurücklegt, waren allesamt Teil der Maschine, die zur Typzulassung eingereicht wurde, zusammen mit Auspuff und Gemischaufbereitung, und das Standgeräusch eines Motorrads wird mit diesem Kasten an Ort und Stelle gemessen. Das ist erwähnenswert, weil die klassischen Ansaug-Modifikationen an einem Superbike dieser Ära – Schnorchel ziehen, Deckel bohren, den Kasten ganz entfernen – genau diese Dinge verändern. Der PM58S verändert keines davon. Er ist ein Gewebe, das den Platz einnimmt, den der Original-Flachfilter einnahm, in einem Gehäuse, das so bleibt, wie Honda es gebaut hat.

Die Änderung, die das Gehäuse unberührt lässt
Der Unterschied ist nicht kosmetisch. Das Entfernen oder Durchbohren einer Airbox verändert das Volumen, aus dem der Motor schöpft, den Ort, an dem er seine Luft nimmt, und die Akustik der gesamten Ansaugung; die Abstimmung wurde um alle drei herum vorgenommen. Der Austausch des Mediums im Kasten lässt die Geometrie unangetastet und ist in Minuten rückgängig gemacht – deshalb ist es die eine Ansaug-Änderung, die sich vornehmen lässt, ohne dass danach über sonst noch etwas gesprochen werden muss. Das ist auch der Grund, warum keine Neuabstimmung nötig ist: Nichts, worauf die Gemischaufbereitung abgestimmt wurde, hat sich bewegt.
Was dem P08 damit bleibt
Nicht viel, wenn Leistung die Behauptung sein soll: Ein serienmäßiger Liter-Motor gewinnt sie nicht durch ein Element. Was das Gewebe bewirkt, ist, den Ansaugwiderstand über Jahre stabil zu halten, statt ihn zwischen den Wartungen schleichend steigen zu lassen. Zellulose ist an dem Tag am besten, an dem sie eingesetzt wird, und verschlechtert sich danach, bis sie entsorgt wird; ein gewaschenes Gewebe kehrt zu seinem eigenen Ausgangspunkt zurück und ist für die Lebensdauer des Motorrads ausgelegt, nicht für ein Intervall. Bei der Rückhaltung misst der Hersteller für sein Gewebe 93,13 % bei 100-Mikron-Partikeln, gegenüber 76,42 % für vierlagige geölte Baumwolle – und das ohne Öl, das einen Ansaugsensor erreichen könnte.
Pflege und Reinigung
Druckluft an der sauberen Seite, nach außen geblasen, ist bei den meisten Wartungen die gesamte Routine. Wird mehr gebraucht, waschen Sie den PM58S in warmem Wasser mit einem milden Spülmittel und spülen ihn, bis er klar ist. Wärme ist das eine Verbot, das wirklich zählt – kein Föhn, kein Auspuff, keine Flamme – und das Element wird trocken wieder eingesetzt, ohne dass etwas darauf aufgetragen wird. Fitment & Kompatibilität
Der PM58S wird für die Honda CBR1000RR geführt, gebaut von 2008 bis 2016 – eine Maschine unter dieser Referenz. Die spätere CBR1000RR ist ein eigener Eintrag mit eigenem Baujahresfenster und eigener Teilenummer, lesen Sie daher das Baujahr aus der Zulassungsbescheinigung und gleichen Sie es vor der Bestellung mit der Kompatibilitätsliste ab.
