Modelljahr-Überarbeitungen lassen einen Besitzer normalerweise rätseln, welcher Ratschlag noch für seine eigene Maschine gilt; der Luftfilterkasten ist einer der wenigen Orte, an denen ein Modell von 2022 und eines von 2026 nachweislich identisch sind, denn ein Element wird um ein Gehäuse herum konstruiert, und dieses Gehäuse hat sich nicht verändert.

Fünf Modelljahre unter einem Code
Eine Teilenummer, die einen ganzen Produktionslauf abdeckt, sagt still etwas Wichtiges aus. Sie sagt, dass der Ansaugtrakt feststand, bevor das erste Motorrad das Werk verließ, und danach unangetastet blieb – was nicht für jedes Bauteil an dieser Maschine gilt. Die praktische Folge ist begrenzt, aber real: Wenn ein Fahrer, dessen Maschine drei Jahre älter ist als Ihre, beschreibt, wie sich der Kasten öffnen lässt, wie die Dichtung sich setzt oder wie viel nach einem trockenen Sommer aus den Falten gefallen ist, gilt diese Erfahrung ohne Vorbehalt auch für Sie. In einem Wartungsgespräch trifft das auf kaum etwas anderes zu.
Was nicht dasselbe ist wie mehr Leistung
Nichts, was in einen Serien-Luftfilterkasten eingesetzt wird, macht eine Standard-MT 800 spürbar schneller, und ein Angebot, das das andeutet, beschreibt eine Hoffnung. Was sich ändert, ist der Verlauf des Wartungsintervalls. Ein Papierpaneel beginnt in seinem besten Zustand und bewegt sich in nur eine Richtung, bis es jemand entsorgt; ein waschbares Element hat einen Referenzzustand, zu dem es zurückkehren kann, sodass der Ansaugwiderstand nahe seinem Ausgangspunkt bleibt, statt unbemerkt immer weiter anzusteigen. Über fünf Modelljahre Besitz hinweg ist das das gesamte Argument, und es ist ein bescheidenes.
Pflege und Reinigung
Druckluft auf die saubere Seite, nach außen gerichtet, schickt die Ladung auf dem Weg zurück, auf dem sie hereinkam, und für die meisten Wartungen ist das bereits die gesamte Arbeit. Insektenreste und Straßenfilm verlangen nach lauwarmem Wasser mit einem milden Reinigungsmittel, gespült, bis das Wasser klar bleibt. Das Trocknen erfolgt langsam und kalt – nur bewegte Luft, nie eine Heißluftpistole, ein Heizkörper oder eine Flamme –, und der PM228S kommt trocken zurück, ohne dass danach etwas aufgesprüht wird.
